Americans Andy Roddick, Mardy Fish, and John isner have said they would not play in the olympic tennis tournament. Its hard to believe you would skip on something that comes once in every four years. Is james blake still playing, who are the other americans still playing?

  1. As it stands right now, James Blake, Sam Querrey, and either Donald Young or Robby Ginepri will be representing the US. Vince Spadea who is ranked one spot below Ginepri has said it is his goal to play the Olympics this year. A lot of players (not just the US players) have health concerns about the event being held in Beijing. The timing of the event is also a problem for some.

Justine Henin and Andy Roddick are the biggest  names to announce they are skipping the tournament. There is likely to be more as the start date inches closer.

  2. what a stupid decision

  3. wait a moment. so they should all just ignore their preparation for the much more important US Open to play the Olympics? um,that's not selfish in my eyes....there are priorities being made because the olympics are being held so close to the us open....it's all the way in beijing for one thing and that would completely disrupt their attention, the preparation to a tennis grand slam as they would put all of that energy into the olympics. and really as tennis player one would expect them to put more value on winning a slam trophy than a medal. as mentioned too,it isn't only the americans.....justine henin said over a month ago that she was not participating and for the same reason i believe as roddick and fish. but don't call them selfish because that's more important to them.....IT IS more important as a tennis player!

  4. I just asked a similar post about why is tennis even in the olympics in the first place. They should take the tennis out of the olympics. It is not an olympic sport. what next golf?

  5. American players are selfish. All they want is money, they won't play for free for their country. The Williams sisters and Lindsay Davenport also pull out of Fed cup, leaving a bunch of rookies to face the top players from Russia in the semifinal.
