Yes God created the Heavens and the earth, but it is us humans who have messed up.  It is because humans are naturally greedy, and exploit the earth instead of giving glory to God who has created all things great and small.

Christians don't value nature because it is not spoke of in the bible.  while earlier religions and faith believed nature was god;  they cherished and took care of it because it was sacred to them.  I love reading about Asian belief systems because nature is considered the center of life and the value it's presence and symmetry.
