Who else regrets the lowering of sporting standards in rugby?

After the World Cup final, the Springboks did nothing but hug each other and jubilate. 50 years ago the first thing they'd have done would have been to shake hands with the England team and congratulate them on battling so hard.

  1. Still a way ahead of the other sports.  I'm confident the 6 nations will be a great tournament.

  2. What do you expect is your first reaction when winning a world cup? They did shake hands afterwards. On the other hand why did the English not make a guard for the honour for the new world champs if they were such good sportsmen themselves?. Also remember that these are sports professionals now and the they are paid for playing, whether they win or lose. Do you think that most people in any business shake the hands of the other in deals that are lost or won?

  3. .In my day each team gave the other three cheers at the end of the game shook hands and clapped each other off the field.  We did not embrace a try scorer, we said well done and possible shook hands. It was not done to deliberately hurt and opposing player. Of course I am talking about those who played the game for enjoyment

  4. Look around in the real world.

Ever wonder how all the sports is moving backwards in time?

After all the batches of seniors retiring.

The young one could not even advance in sport any longer.

    What do you think?

  5. Yo mamma!

  6. First off: you sound bitter, or at least as if you have something against the South Africans, which is OK because many people do.

Secondly:  To an extent I have to agree with you, I also do not recall them being good sportsmen and shaking hands of the losing side. But then again, my cable connection went to ads until the presentations, so who knows what I missed?

There is no excuse for poor sportsmanship but I will say this, the Springboks had just won the 'big one' and this was their moment, they did it as a team and they deserve to celebrate together and be jubilant. Surely had England won, then they would have heisted Johny Wilkinson on the shoulders of the team and paraded him all over, since he was pretty much his teams hope.

And lastly: the hard old days of tough men, where men were still men... or whatever you want to call it, that has changed , not just in rugby but in general, look all around you.

Heck the other day I felt emotional after hitting a squirrel with my car, my grandfather, had he been in my shoes, would've probably just cussed it all the way to h**l.
