Who else remembers the rumour that Philip was not the father of the two younger princes?

I can remember this, and a possible name for their father, being suggested in the 1970s.

I've wondered since, whether there might have been any substance in these stories, or whether it was simply a case of anti-royal Chinese Whispers.

   I believe under UK law the two sons would be legitimate by virtue of the fact that the father and mother were living together.

  Hypothetically, if a magazine got hold of blood samples of father and sons (obviously by illicit means) and did DNA tests, then I believe the results of the tests would be inconsequential under the law.

   So, the matter should be considered private.

I think you are straying into the realms of fantasy.  I cannot remember any such thing ever being suggested, and I strongly doubt it ever was.  When exactly is the Queen supposed to have managed to have an affair, since she is scarcely ever out of the public eye?

I don't remember about Phillip. I do remember it being said Charles wasn't the father of young Harry - the rumour mill went into overdrive when Diana went with James @rsehole Hewitt (him having red hair and all). William is the double of Diana but as Harry has got older he's starting to look more like Charles. I'm just glad both of them have their mother's good nature.

Thank you for the edit, I was already getting confused at reading Hewitt mentioned in almost every answer here. ;)

I doubt there´s substance in these stories, I´d categorise this under wild speculations. People get bored, editors need to make a living - a son gets born who doesn´t look like the walking image of his father, there you go.

Harry.....  Well, do you think he looks like Charlie?

Both are quite obviously Diana's

As for who the other father could be.... Harry does look like Hewitt to me..
