No, he is not overrated.  He is a very talented young pitcher who is quite possibly on his way to becoming one of the best starting pitchers in the AL.  Anyone who says he is overrated must just be upset because he made their "world champions" look silly last night.

Even Beckett had the class to admit that Joba was better than him last night.  Boston fans would do well to follow his example and face the facts instead of whining on Y!A all day about it.

He's done well since becoming a starter and has a 96-97 fastball and great slider.  He may be on his way to becoming one of the best starting pitchers in the AL.

Yankee fans, don't get all defensive. The question is whether or not he's overrated, not whether or no he's a great pitcher.

Joba is a great young pitcher. But he is also overrated. He pitched an outstanding game last night and looks great as a starter. However, the hype surrounding him at times is that he's the greatest pitcher ever and you almost expect this guy to go 400-0 in his career. Anybody being hyped like that is overrated simply by definition - nobody can live up to hype like that, and in many ways it is unfair to burden him like that.

Every twenty years or so a great crop of pitchers emerges - in the late 60s it was Seaver, Carlton, Niekro and Ryan...in the mid 80s Gooden, Clemens, Hershiser, Maddux. Joba is part of a phenomenal group of young pitchers entering the game now - Joba, Lincecum, Kazmir, Lester, etc. It's going to be fun to watch these guys for the next fifteen years.

he is not over rated and he pitched really well yesterday and he is going to be really good with a electirc fastball, a devestating slider and 12-6 curveball and a ok change up he is really going to get guys out and he has a good delivery with out extra movement so its not more pressure on his shoulder and elbow.

The guy has yet to pitch 1 full season so it's WAY too early to say that he is overrated or not.  Any potential STUD playing in a market like NY will automatically get labeled overrated or overhyped right away no matter what they do on the field. Give the guy more time before you call him the greatest thing since sliced bread or the most overrated pitcher ever.

To be honest, at first when he came up and all the talk by media of him, especially on ESPN, I thought it was over rated. Commercializing a player that has yet to have an impact, just to try and make a name for someone. I mean isnt that how most guys "get started"? We here of a name and say who, what, and then before you know it they sort of become an everyday name you hear in the sport. Or anything else for that matter. However, he has pitched rather fine, and is sporting a mere 2.30 ERA and 1.24 WHIP in 78 innings, along with 93 K's. Not bad at all, especially these days when SP are in dire need and often not found or capable of performing steadily. Perhaps next season when he starts at beginning of season and gathers those W's, he will be spoken of more so, if possible, but this time rightfully so.
