Who else thinks Lyoto Machida is the most boring fighter in the UFC?

12-0, but with 7 decisions.... wooooow. This guy makes a living by running in reverse and waiting for the opponent to gas, get frustrated enough to do something stupid, or tap from boredom.

I was looking foward to the Ortiz fight the most seeing as how I thought Machida would finally get tested by an aggressive/established opponent. Instead we got to see a very Kalib Starnes-esque performance by a guy stuck in reverse. Turned out to be the worst fight of the night!

He's like the Tim Duncan of the UFC. Sure, he's "good" because he wins, but I'd rather see an exciting/sloppy battle than a smart/boring one any day. I want a rematch with Ortiz in a 5x5 padded cell and let's see who can really FIGHT, if that's what we're still calling it. Your thoughts.....

  1. What a ridiculous statement.

MMA is mixed martial arts. What makes it so great is that any style of fighter can compete. Lyotos style is to be elusive, pick his strikes, circle, stay out of the way, counter-strike and go for the kill if the oppertunity arises.

To some it may be boring, however those are the same people that watch the sport JUST for the violence and brutality. Anyone that appreciates MMA as a sport and as an artform should be able to understand that he is a fantastic fighter and not at all boring.

But if you want a reason to call the fight boring, blame Tito.

His last fight in the UFC, wanted to go out on a high, been training for months for this fight against Machida, he knew Machidas style, yet he gets in there and doesn't strike, goes for half-assed takedowns, doesn't set up any of his shots... it was as if he hadn't prepared to fight Lyoto at all.

  2. Was Machida exciting....no!

However his style is unique & he has some big wins on his resume which you can't argue with.  His opponents know who he is and what he does & no one has been able to take him out of his game.  Only elite fighters can do that & no one has done it yet.  With that being said, he might be (probably be) exposed once he fights the upper level lightheavies.  I think Tito did a horrible job in the fight  & I am a Tito fan.  Machida just picked him apart & took Tito out of his game (ground & pound) - which made him the better fighter this weekend.

  3. Did you miss his fight with soko? I agree and disagree, see I am also a boxing fan enjoy the sweet science of unarmed combat, check out the fight stats, do you relize Tito didn't even touch machida in round 1? while lyoto landed 20+ punches and kicks on ortiz. I for 1 fought his fight saturday to be entertaining but would also like to see him step up his countering and at least try to draw his opponent in like Liddell does, he could have easily utilized the jab like Penn did against Sherk, and frustrated ortiz into fighting his game and maybe finished him. But Machida will never get a title shot because he is not the kind of fighter the common fan can appriciate. 1 only has to look at Wandy/Jardine. Who would most say is the better fighter? after that total destruction of Jardine most would say Wandy but Machida would embarrass Silva, his style is exactly the kind of fighter Machida would finish off.

  4. I don't like Machida, he is boring but there are worse, I was cheering for Tito for the first time in my life last Saturday.

  5. Lyoto is a fighter, not an entertainer

  6. I think your a mad Tito Ortiz fan!

  7. He is a fighter, his job is to win fights. It just so happens that his strategy works well. You complain about this, but what about two guys rolling around on the ground fo 15 minutes?

At least he is in there fighting, and not sitting back in his easy chair popping the top on another (insert beer of choice here), and critisizing someone doing something they could never hope to do.

Simple solution you don't like it, don't watch it and don't pay your money.

  8. I think you're just a big Tito Ortiz fan and can't accept that he lost. You knew what you were gonna see from Machida, so why are you acting surprised? I am also an Ortiz fan but  we half to face it man, he isn't the same guy from the past.
