Question:

Who else thinks Street Sense can't run the Belmont's distance?

Obvouisly Curlin likes the longer distances... maybe the length of the Belmont is too risky for the Street Sense team... Curlin's the real super horse here... I wouldn't bother racing Street Sense in the Belmont if I owned him... But, I think Street Sense might be able to beat him again in a shorter distance.. Curlins' jocky is too busy arguing with him in the beginning of his races... I wonder what would happen if he just let Curlin handle it...

  1. i also heard that Street Sense is not running in the Belmont. but that might not be true anymore. i think that if he did run in the Belmont that he would probably not win. :)

i just don't think he has enough "gears" at the end to push him self to the lead in such a long race.

i like Curlin but i also am starting to like Hard Spun. yea, he didn't win the Derby or Preakness but he got 2nd in the Derby and only 3rd in the Preakness. so i think it's Hard Spun's turn to win the Belmont.

    but that's just me...

  2. I agree.  The distance will be an issue.  I also think it will be a problem for Curlin.

  3. I like Street Sense!!!! I think he could run the distance!! Curlin might catch up to him!!!

  4. I figure that he will be ready for that race as he has been training all his short life to win just such a race.

  5. Your logic doesn't quite make sense, because the Preakness  is shorter than the Derby , so Curlin won the shorter race, Street Sense the longer........logically meaning that Street Sense should be able to win longer races.

They are both very, very nice horses - as is Hard Spun.

  6. Street Sense is better than Curlin in any race around two turns. The only reason he was caught in the Preakness is because he was dawdling after he got the lead. In a sprint Curlin probably is better.

  7. If Street Sense is entered, the distance will not be any problem for him at all. What will decide the race is pace, e.g., if Street Sense is reserved too far back off a slow early pace or if other horses are too close to a fast pace.

The reality is that most of the jockeys involved only ride  a mile and a half dirt race once a year (if that often).  Many of them (as we have seen) really don't have a clue how to ride it.

If they both run, I would expect to see Curlin win, this time probably by making a move on the leaders before Street Sense does. Curlin actually has more tactical speed than SS. But as far as a distance limitation, Street Sense's breeding is fine and I don't think that will affect him in the least.

As far as a longshot, look for Tiago to come back from California and have a big impact on the race.

  8. Your right. The Belmont is a challange for him. So, if he cant, he won't.

I was listening on the radio the other morning on like this sports channel w/ my dad and they were talking about Curlin and Hard Spun and stuff like that and they said that Street Sense is not running in the Belmont.

Now if Street Sense won the Preakness (which he almost did) he would've of-course race the Belmont to see if they might be able to get it. So he has his Derby win and he almost won the Preakness, but still he didn't. His trainer (i can't member his name) is probably thinking whats the point? Even if we try to run him in the Belmont he won't win anyways. SO whats worth trying it just to loose.

Now, that's probably not what he's thinking, lol, but on the line of that.

Now Curlin, I remember on here how much people were arguing about who will win the Derby or the Triple Crown and stuff like that. And I was all over Curlin! I was like promising he would win the Derby, well, look at his races he's done before them! He's won all of them and his margin's were HUGE. Anyways, I kept bragging that he would win the Triple Crown (since he was undefeated). But I really thought Curlin could do it. And he really didn't prove me wrong. He only got 3rd in the Derby and he ran an AWSUME Preakness. Now there's just the Belmont. And I think he can do the same. I mean, if he even gets last in the Belmont, I'll still be really proud of him. Because I really love Curlin, even though I've never seen him in person or anything. But I can still love him, just like I loved Barbaro.

  9. You are forgetting that the Derby is longer than the Preakness But I do agree that street sense will not win the belmont

  10. if street sense jockey takes him back, and sits at the back of the pack with curlin, i think street sense will out kick curlin, but will they be able to catch rags to riches or hard spun who just might set a very slow pace, and have something left in their tanks as they charge down the Belmont stretch.

  11. Personaly, I think he probably can get the distance, I just don't think he has the same amount of stamina in his ped as, for instance, Tiago or Rags to Riches.
