Who else thinks that London's knife crime epidemic, is effectivly being ignored by the government?

What I wanna know is why, even though there has been 23 teenage murders in london since january, why has there been no change in government legislation. Instead Brown has said that "thought-provoking posters" will stop knife crime.

Does anyone else think that this is wrong, and that the time for brandishing all youths with the same brush is over. It is about time that carrying a knife became an immediate imprisonable offence, which carried a longer sentance than 3 hours and community service.

Give me your thoughts.

  1. Wow, and I thought we in the states had gun related crimes problems.  I thought the crime was murder, despite what ever weapon is being used.  There isn't any law enforcement system that will effectively stop another human being from killing another with any available 'tool' or weapon.

I would think having a law that forbade the carrying of knives, would be too broad.  You would make a criminal out of anyone that is using a knife for basic commercial uses.  A few examples come to mind: chefs, wait staff, and even shipping clerks that must open packages with knives of those that would violate your proposed law.

  2. Murder is down but teen murder is up:

    2000- 180

    2001- 171

    2002- 190

    2003- 189

    2004- 232

    2005- 221

    2006- 168 (6 teenagers)

    2007- 156 (27 teenagers)

    2008 -65 so far (21 teenagers)

A third of the total murders this year so far have been teenagers

    Prediction

    2008- 130 (42 teenagers)

As murder in total goes down teen murder goes up till maybe one year teen murder will make overall murder go up and will be seeing 200 teen murders a year at this rate
