The royals work!! - I wish I had a job where I jetted all over the world to shake hands with people and then talk to a camera to comment on the state of the world at Christmas.

Whether you agree or not with the idea of a monarchy, the net financial gain of ours to the UK economy is huge. Look at the hundreds of tourists you see outside Buckingham Palace every day of the year, and think about how much money they're all spending while they're here.

I know I'll probably be in a minority of one here, but I like the fact that we are one of the few countries in the world with a visible, non-political head of state.

Show me someone that has shown more decorum in the face of such public interferance than the Queen. She is without a shadow of a doubt head and shoulders above any other member of the family. She deserves all she has, and is still a massive attraction for visitors to the UK.

Nice try  -  but just have to point out that as they are also titled landowners  -  I don't suppose it will bother them financially.

Now if those lands were deemed to be the property of the country  -  all the other big landowners (the crowd that acually  own the country),  the Lords of This,  Earls of That and the Marquises of The Other would be  shitting bricks.............

..... but, as usual,  will have pulled enough political strings to prevent any of it from happening in the first place.

Unfortunately we didn't have a revolution like the French and we are still paying the price of it.

Honestly I cant understand how they still continue to last in a modern society.  It goes against every democratic value that these nations supposedly hold even though they have little power nowadays.  I'd love to see what would happen if all the European countries with monarchies just up and dumped them all and took away their money.
