  1. I hope that you are wrong!! I would love to see him do it!!  You never know how a race will play out. That is what makes it exciting!!

  2. Kind of agree, but would love to see a Triple Crown.

  3. Why is it that so many people listen to the headlines but never read the actual story???

All of these people hearing about this quarter crack but not actually reading or listening to the story behind it!!!

A quarter crack is NOT AN INJURY!!!

I just wrote this analogy on another question - I didn't come up with this by reading it, I came up with it by using my brain.  I happen to think it is a very good explanation and should show anyone who questions this that this is NOT A PROBLEM!!!

Their hooves grow like fingernails. It's like a crack in your fingernail that goes into your nailbed.

If you don't do anything with it, it's pretty sore until it grows out.

However, imagine if you went to a Nail Salon and had them put a fake nail on top of it. This would seal the crack, it's no longer exposed to being ripped into the bed more and the pain is gone.

The nail grows out past the crack, you remove the fake nail and all is normal.

They have put a very strong acrylic patch over his quarter crack, therefore it is no longer exposed and cannot be felt. It's actually stronger than the rest of his uncovered hoof - just like with the fake nail on top of your cracked nail, which is stronger than any of your natural nails.

EDITED TO ADD - I guess you haven't heard Crazymama - Casino Drive is NO LONGER Big Brown's competition.  He was scratched about 6 hours ago!

EDITED TO ADD - First, Crazymama - sorry if you took my comment to you as negative...which it seems you did based on your response.  I wasn't being snarky or sarcastic at all!!!  Obviously, you hadn't heard...and even though he was scratced at 6:30 am, I don't think it was announced for awhile.  You hadn't heard it yet, not a big deal...so I was giving you the information!

And yes, I understand that when you take off a fake nail, the underbed of the nail is thinner and weaker.  What I meant was that the crack/rip into your nail bed is no longer an issue - hence, normal.

I have had this done quite a few times and yes, it might be hot for about an hour - but I have never had any problems after that!  I have also had nails rip into the bed and it's sore for a couple of days but after that, it's just a matter of the nail growing out to cover the skin.

No, of course they don't use metal sutures on our nails...we don't WALK on our fingertips and we don't weigh 2000 pounds and our nails are not nearly as hard as their hooves - I know because my dogs chew on cow hooves and it takes months for them to eat one!  Yes, the steps are a bit different and the materials are a bit different.  But that is the point of an analogy.  They are totally different topics but the same basic type of thing to get the same outcome.

I happen to still think that it's a good analogy for someone who doesn't know anything about a quarter crack.  Sorry if you don't agree with me, but I certainly never meant any disrespect to you!!!

    Definition of analogy

a similarity between like features of two things, on which a comparison may be based: the analogy between the heart and a pump.

Now, is the material that flows through them the same - you know, blood and water??  Do you think that the veins in a heart that have blood flowing through them and say the plastic hoses that go into a pump would use the same steps to fix one or the other?

Since one would use medical equipment and one would use a plumber's equipment, I would say they probably aren't all that similiar!

Yet it's still an analogy just like mine!!!

I have absolutely NO IDEA why you are so defensive and why you took it out on me, but I really don't think I deserved your disrespect that way!  I have no idea what I have ever done to you!

  4. big brown dead last

  5. Go Big Brown!! I predict that he WILL win this race today. Do you realize that a hoof crack IS NOT an injury?? My horse got a crack this year due to dry weather conditions. Its NOT a big deal. The crack was found early, they wire sutured it, and applied fiberglass & acrylic Friday to the hoof too. Hoof cracks occur in the wild all the time....trust me, he can still run!

Again, this is NOT an injury! It's not like the stone bruise one of his competitors is experiencing.....

EDIT~~corundogs~~I realize NOW that Casino Drive was scratched. I just got out of bed like an hour ago and haven't checked the news, so sorry!

I'd also like to point out that your analogy is not right on. As a woman that has worn acrylic nails a lot, when the nail is removed your nail IS NOT normal. It is weak and brittle and prone to breakage. I HATE putting an acrylic nail over a broken sore nail that has broken into the nail bed~~It's hot and painful for quite some time after the acrylic nail has been applied.

Comparing fake nails to what they did to Big Brown's hoof isn't even a fair analogy. I have never heard of a person with a broken nail having it SUTURED, then a week or so later having the sutures removed and have fiberglass AND acrylic applied to the nail. Nice try though.

  6. Uh with this group he races against today, will be like all his other races! He will be going, going, GONE coming into the big home stretch at Belmont! Big Brown by 5 or more lengths! GO BIG BROWN!!!!!
