i think it would make the fights alot more interesting ,,i don't see what the problem is if both fighters agree to it. i really feel royce would have won the hughes fight had he been able to wear it. most of these fighter do bjj on the ground was'nt bjj developed with the gi?

  1. I think the Gi makes the fight more street realistic, because in the street you won't be nearly naked sans shorts, you will be wearing clothes, shirt, maybe a jacket.  The Gi is closer to street clothes then just shorts and bare chest.

  2. Whatever bjj was developed in, which was probably in a gi (or kimono as I think they call it) it was made to be able to be used without the gi.  Why would anyone WANT to wear a gi in an MMA fight? it puts them at a disadvantage.  You use Gis in arts like that to learn the escapes to moves technically.  If they didn't wear gis while training it people could use their sweating and squirm out of a submission, but gis add extra chokes that can be done with you, make it easier to do just about any grappling move on you, and are very hard to escape submissions in.

now that I'm done saying that... Royce and Hughes faced off? I didn't even think Royce was still doing UFC...

  3. It's against the rules in American promotions. There are advantages and disadvantages in wearing them. The Unified rules of mixed martial arts don't allow pants, nor tops, nor belts to be worn. Everyone has to wear the same shorts, same gloves, et cetera. So I don't know where everyone is getting this "It's not practical" c**p from.

  4. Nope. It would give an unfair advantage to the guys not wearing it. Karo Parysian is a world class Judo fighter, he could destroy someone wearing a GI.

  5. dude i think without the gi is better and it also makes the grappling more exciting and the reason they don't use it no more is because it got in the way

  6. but look at Gi grappling versus no Gi

with a Gi on the other guy almost always has something to grab, in judo he could throw you

in BJJ he could submit you

its like going up to a fight but putting on handle bars and attaching them to yourself

once someone whos a black belt in either of those arts grabs you, he will never let go unless you break him
