Does parliament have any say in this matter. Any websites would be much appreciated!

  1. In Queensland I believe the Department of the Attorney General compiles a list for the Attorney General to sift through. Then once the Attorney General finds someone suitable, he requests the Governor to approve the selection.

  2. The Department of Public Prosecutors, a State government Department,  appoints & employs the lower magistrates sometimes sequesting barristers from private practice to temporarily fill positions.

Judges for higher courts are appointed by the Sate Governments from suggestions put up by the Department of Public Prosecutors and the "Bar Council".

Judges in the Federal Court and the High Court are appointed by the Federal Government through a similar process.
