I think as pro-wrestling fans we missed out on the biggest and best matches ever. The best era in wrestling was the late 90's monday night wars era where wwf competed against wcw in the ratings. Both companies were chock a block full of top names and as wrestling fans we only dreamt of what it might be like if the top names from opposing companies fought one another in a match. Then, the unthinkable happened. Wwf purchased wcw, and they started a huge wwf vs wcw storyline. Unfortunately it was only the wcw name they had purchased because the only wrestlers that went to wwf from wcw werent top names. There was ddp but wwf for some bizarre reason didnt use him in top matches and he left the company after a while and there was also Booker T who only became a top name in the last year of wcw's lifespan. Flair came later but was considered too old for wwf to take him serious in top matches even though wcw didnt, but Flair stuck around. Hogan came over and got used in top matches for a few months but they demoted him like Flair which pissed Hogan off so he left. Hall came over but was demoted after a month and left. Nash came for a few months and left. When Scott Steiner came he worked a couple top matches got demoted and left. When Piper came wwf considered him too old to be taken serious in matches even though wcw didnt. Golberg came for a year, but at least worked top matches in that time, however wwf fans booed his matches due to their wwf loyalty over wcw so he left. Macho man, Sting, Luger, Bret Hart, Ultimate Warrior, Sid Viscious (rumoured to be coming) and Jarrett never came. Even though most of these wrestlers above had worked for wwf in earlier years, it was before some of wwf's biggest stars reached their peak (hbk, mic foley, the rock, stone cold, triple h, kane, jbl, edge). Its like we just missed out on the ultimate wrestling dream which was wwf vs wcw due to wrestlers not wanting to work for wwf and wwf demoting wrestlers from wcw. Goldberg was the closest who got a years run with the wwf working in top matches, others we didnt see at all or just got small tastes of. Another taste is TNA, who's top stars closely resemble wcw's top stars just before they collapsed (Jarrett, Sting, Nash, Steiner, Hall, Booker T). When Angle, a former top wwf name, went to tna, it resembled one more taste of wwf vs wcw. Overall i felt as though we missed the lions share of what could have been wwf vs wcw, and got left with some scrappy bits of the odd match here and there. So bad luck pro-wrestling fans, we missed a huge g-spot in pro-wrestling history, possibly the biggest g-spot there has been or ever will be. Most likely as a result of ego's upsetting other ego's. Isnt it a shame how ego's cant be placed aside for the greater good.
