  3. I have a question for you.  Did you know the Wright brothers are credited with flying the first powered heavier than air aircraft?  I surely hope so.  One of the people that the Wright brothers looked to for information concerning flying was Octave Chanute.

  4. There have been many pioneers in the history of aeroplanes but the first to successfully fly an aeroplane were the Wright Brothers, Orville and Wilbur. Orville and Wilbur were skilled craftsmen and keen experimenters. They owned a business making and repairing bicycles. They were able to bring the value of a scientific approach to the invention of a heavier-than-air machine.

On the 17th of December 1903 they were successful in producing the world's first powered flight. Wilbur ran alongside the plane, Flyer, as Orville took off on the sand dunes outside a town called Kitty Hawk in North Carolina, USA. The flight lasted just 12 seconds and travelled 37 metres. This distance is less than the wingspan of a modern airliner, but it was a major accomplishment at the time.

The brothers received very little recognition in their home country. People were very sceptical about their achievement. On the 8th of October 1908, Wilbur flew their famous plane, Flyer, in front of a large crowd in France. The next day it was all over the French newspapers.

  5. Wow.... I can't believe how wrong people can be!!

It was NOT the Wright Brothers, they were the first to fly a plane, but they didn't design the first ever Leonardo Da Vinci did, he made a funky looking bird-like machine.. Obviously he was laughed at... people thought it was impossible... but let's not go there. So most people are wrong it was Leonardo not the Wright Brothers!!

  6. orville and wilbur wright am i right!!!!!!!!!!!

  7. mr Wright along with his brother. another mr wright

  8. Wright Brothers

  9. Plausible designs for methods of artificial flight go back to ancient times, and there are many sources, known and unknown.  The most common citation is to Leonardo DaVinci, though there are sketches older than his ornithopter drawings.

For much more information, try an internet search on "ornithopter" and one on "leonardo davinci."

The first well-documented and generally-accepted controlled flight of a powered airplane was accomplished by Orville and Wilbur Wright of Dayton Ohio, working at Kill Devil Hills NC in December of 1903.

  10. it was actually sir George cayley who first designed an aircraft but it didn't fly due to various reasons.wright brothers got the name because they were the ones who made it to fly successfully

  11. writght brothers, Wilburt  & Orville Write had a little cycle repairing shop but they had a dream of fly in the sky. after few years of attempt, they finally fulfilled  their dream on Dec 17, 1903. they r considered as d pioneer of the aeroplane.

  12. leonardo Da Vinci

  13. Well, the Wright brothers flew first, but I doubt they'd be credited with designing the first aeroplane

  14. the wright brothers.. they were bicycle mechanics by trade

  15. According to mythology, a Greek named Daedalus was the first to give man wings...  He fashioned wings for himself and his son, Icarus to escape captivity from a remote island, but Icarus flew too close to the sun and his wings melted and he fell into the sea and died.  I guess that would make Icarus the first victim of a plane crash!

  16. It's really a matter of semantics, properly an airplane or aeroplane is any fixed wing craft that flies in the air.

Sir George Cayley, the inventor of the science of aerodynamics, was building and flying models of fixed-wing aircraft as early as 1803, and he built a successful passenger-carrying glider in 1853. In 1856, Frenchman Jean-Marie Le Bris made the first powered flight, by having his glider "L'Albatros artificiel" pulled by a horse on a beach. On 28 August 1883, the American John J. Montgomery made a controlled flight in a glider. Other aviators who had made similar flights at that time were Otto Lilienthal, Percy Pilcher and Octave Chanute.

The first Self-powered aircraft was created by an Englishman by the name of John Stringfellow of Chard in Somerset, who created a self-powered model aircraft that had its first successful flight in1848.

Clément Ader constructed and designed a self-powered aircraft. On October 9, 1890, Ader attempted to fly the Éole, which succeeded in taking off and flying uncontrolled a distance of approximately 50 meters before witnesses. In August 1892 the Avion II flew for a distance of 200 metres, and on October 14, 1897, Avion III flew a distance of more than 300 metres. Richard Pearse made a poorly documented uncontrolled flight on March 31, 1903 in Waitohi, New Zealand, and on August 28, 1903 in Hanover, the German Karl Jatho made his first flight.

  17. Silly boy....that would be Moog, son of Thag.

and of course....He's French.  just ask them.

yep the first airplane design was done by a Neandertal in Northeast France, in the Bordeau area now  known for its superior wine.  (they invented that too)

After much testing (of the wine) Moog designed the first glider which he demonstrated the first human powered flight.....tothe bottom of the swiss alps.

Moogor, son of Moog, took over the family business and decided that it was more profitable to sell wine than attempt advanced ticketing on his airline.

Thus sadly the implentation of the first airplane design was left to those stupid hooligans in the americas.

hope this helps your homework assignment.
