Question:

Who first said it?

"It's like fitting a square peg into a round hole."

Anyone know? It's a common saying and I'm using it for a paper (I know it's cliche!), I just don't know who to cite it to...

Thanks!

  1. I doubt you will be able to find one person to ascribe this saying to.  It is more an adage (or cliche) than a quote.  It has been around for a long time and applied to many different scenarios.

Things like "trying to herd cats," or "trying to nail jello to a wall," or "raining cats and dogs," or "marching to a different drummer," are often used (or quoted) but cannot be linked to an originating person.
