Ali fought in that golden era of the heavyweights. Even the 2nd tier opponents like Cleveland Williams, Shaves, Lyle, Young, Folley and old Archie Moore were better than almost everybody Lewis fought. Not to mention Liston, Frazier, Norton, Foreman and Holmes! But I'm sure you already know that.

Ali, and there is simply no debating it. It was largely because the heavyweight division was so stacked at the time.

Ali fought all of the contenders. He fought the ranked fighters that Patterson avoided.

He gave people a shot at a title when they have spend up to ten years waiting for a shot.

That is probably the number one thing about his championship that I admire the most.
