I live with my parents and my deadbeat ex-con brother. Recently comcast comes by and tells me they've discovered we're using cable television illegally which I know is a crime that can be prosecuted. Neither I nor my parents watch cable so it must be the deadbeat. My question is with four people living in the house exactly who are they going to come after if they choose too? My parents as homeowners? Me because I already have comcast internet? Or all of us? When I tried to call comcast and ask them they were rude and unhelpful, telling me to talk to a lawyer.

I was also informed that for twenty dollars less a month I could just add cable to my internet and avoid this problem having again but in principle I absolutely refuse to do anything that is going to profit that drug dealing bum, enabling him to watch tv all day while the rest of us work and pay bills. Its bad enough I have to live with him.

  1. I work for Comcast.

The homeowners are held responsible. Stealing cable is a felony and definitely punishable. Comcast has a theft department as well and they will take whatever is connected to cable.

    EXAMPLE

If you're stealing cable and your TV is plugged into a surge protector, they take the TV, the surge protector, and everything that's plugged into it.

  2. I would think that the home owners are responsible for what happens in their home when it comes to things like having cable, phone, internet, etc.. But they were right, you should consult a lawyer.

  3. If you think you or your parents would watch it then i suggest you get the cable and maybe offer to pay for what was stolen.

Eithing way you should confront your brother about it.. if nothing else go into his room and rip the cable out of the wall.

  4. Everyone in the house can be taken to court. You may be the only one not in too serious trouble, but you can possibly be held an accomplice for not stopping it.
