  1. A Physician, must prescribe, (order), any Med.s

    that a patient receives.

Once prescribed, they may be given by a nurse

    or other care giver.

  2. Not us!  Unless the patient is on the way to surgery, we're not going anywhere near the locked ward.

  3. You did not say whether or not you were in, were talking about, a hospital or a doctor's office. I assume you were talking about procedures in a hospital because it is the most likely place to find an anesthesiologist (sp)!

In a hospital generally the person administering any drug is a nurse, She would be following a doctor's written orders as to meds and the other things. So a psychiatric patient in a hospital under normal circumstances is given psychotropic medications by the nurse -- but you said the patient in your Question was out of control, that changes things.

If a person is out of control, he is subdued with force. Always a really nasty way to control an out of control someone. He (she) is pushed to the ground, prone, his nose almost breaking as his head is pushed into the floor. That is what I saw at Westchester Medical Center, at least. The police were there so they performed the dirty deed of handcuffing the person in extremis, kneeing him in the back while cuffinig him. There is plenty of "unnecessary roughness" by the police, again, in the case I witnessed that is -- this may not be a common way police treat the mentally ill -- but it also may. I pass it along as a warning and heads up to anyone in that type of situation. Stuff happens.

Doctors, nurses, anesthesiologists are not in the habit of carrying around pyschiatric drugs. So if someone freaked, a nurse would run to the pharmacy/dispensary and run back with whatever the doctor said to get. This is the most likely scenario for a poor soul "freaking out".
