  1. I feel  the area about  dependents that were over 17 at the end of 12/31/2007  should be looked at more closely..   It would have been nice for them (if they worked part time) or the  parents receive some amount additional in these cases?!?!

  2. And just how is this getting screwed?  You didn't meet the rules that congress set for getting this free money that you didn't earn, so you didn't get it.  Complain to your senator if you don't like the rules.

Are you mad at Oprah too because you didn't get a free car from her because you weren't in the audience the day she gave them out?  You didn't meet the requirements, so you didn't get a free car.  How is that any different?

  3. I get hosed, too.

I am a single mom - head of household.  The cut off for decreasing payments is 90K where as with two working parents it is 140K.

Head of household is IRS speak for single parent.  The cut off should have been half - 70k.

So because I make a modest living that has to stretch farther as there is no one else to earn money in my home - I don't get ummm stimulated.

  4. The IRS did *not* revise the rules on April 17.  The rules regarding valid social security numbers and joint filing were set in place at the beginning, and were clearly spelled out at that point int time.

Also, the IRS does not make tax rules; congress does.  So the IRS is not messing around with you on this issue.

If your wife gets a SSN this year, you will get a second chance to get the benefit of the rebate (for both of you) when you file your 2008 return.  You could also file separately on your 2008 return and get the rebate for yourself, but it would probably cost you more than the difference in taxes to do so.

  5. Mine came on time.  As for your problem, blame the Congress; it passed the law, and like most laws, it is somewhat screwy.

  6. My daughter got skunked.  She didn't get her 600, but she got 300 for her son.

  7. Let's see, if your wife had an SSN you *might* have qualified for a $600 rebate.

If you had filed without your wife as MFS (and didn't claim her exemption either), you *might* have qualified for $300 in rebate, but your tax bill would have gone up by a lot more....

Have you failed to see that this is a political year?  Congress was so hellbound to ensure that they didn't give a rebate to an illegal alien, that the barred all rebates where an ITIN was involved.

  8. don't blame IRS because your wife didn't work and doesn't have a SSN that is your doing you chose her to marry.

    You screwed  your self.

And by the way you were waiting for a "tax REFUND" not a tax return, the tax return (by law) what you file.

By the way you filed a correct return because you are married and you did file a joint return.

  9. Don't blame IRS, it is just following the law:  The one that states that you are not qualified.
