Question:

Who got the best deal. Milly, Maggie, Molly or May?

maggie and milly and molly and may

went down to the beach(to play one day)

and maggie discovered a shell that sang

so sweetly she couldn't remember her troubles, and

milly befriended a stranded star

whose rays five languid fingers were;

and molly was chased by a horrible thing

which raced sideways while blowing bubbles:and

may came home with a smooth round stone

as small as a world and as large as alone.

For whatever we lose(like a you or a me)

it's always ourselves we find in the sea

  1. "For whatever we lose (like a you or a me)

It's always ourselves we find in the sea."

If you're asking a philosophical question, then the deal is of the same value to everyone, as whatever they found, it was most appropriate for them.

It's a great poem whatever level you appreciate it on. Personally I'd have liked to be Milly and find a star!

Thank you for a great and thought provoking question.

  4. Good poem!

    Is that your own creation?

  5. 'as small as a world and as large as alone' is just a wonderful line, what an image that stirred.

  6. Maggie!

Cool poem by E E Cummings!

  7. Okay Bossy Boots, I'm looking at the 'Milly' question.

What I love about this well crafted poem is the theme, the imagery and the rhythmic form.  I also find it interesting that in your question you placed the name Milly first.  I'm wondering why....do you think Milly is the best deal?
