Was it a friend or family member? Were you "hooked" immediately and is it the SAME team you were rooting for then or for some reason did you change favorite teams?

Bonus-If they didn't call it a "Puck" what would you suggest they did call it?

  1. my dad and my cousin got me into it. my dad is a ranger fan and my cousin is an islander fan. so i had to make a decision and i became a die hard ranger fan. my dad told me so many stories about how he used to play hockey with his friends and about the rangers. we watched the 94' playoffs when the rangers won the cup one day because i was to little to remember it and i became hooked and became a die hard fan. me and him watch every game and when we can't watch it together we are constantly calling each other and talking about the game. he made me a huge hockey fan and a huge ranger fan. as for me and my cousin we still fight over hockey and we were banded from watching islander vs ranger games together and sometimes we can't even watch other games together because we argue. its fun though.

i think puck is ok. i really can't think of another name.

  2. My Grandpa got me into watching hockey. He and I had a special bond as we were born on the same day. He and I would hockey and roller derby together. I loved it. Almost as much as spending time with my Grandpa. The team I watched with him Was the Red Wings. I moved to Florida when I was 5. So I had no team of my own. I still watched hockey when I could. When the Panthers came to town. I finally had a team of my own to root for. I still have a place for the Wings though.

Bonus. The puck would probably be called a Patty after cow patties.

  3. My big brother and my dad.  They began watching first, and my brother played hockey.  So I started watching.  I have to admit, I wasn't immediately hooked.  The first game I ever went to, I was 6 years old.  They were FRONT ROW seats (and I never had front row seats ever again), Devils VS Senators (the Devs won 2-0!) and I fell asleep.  I had no idea what was going on.  But after the Devils won the Cup in 2000 (I was 9) I really got into the game more.  Loved the Devils when I was 4 and all I knew was "GO DEVILS!  RANGERS SUCK!  BRODEUR IS AWESOME!" to now when I'm 17 and a lot more knowledgeable.

    Umm..A disk?  No idea.

  4. It was my neighborhood. I grew up playing baseball, basketball, and soccer from the time I was 2-3. But my dad was from Brooklyn and was never really exposed to Hockey. But the kids in my neighborhood always played in the street. I got a pair of blades and joined them and soon I was one of the better players, so I swiched to ice, and i've been playing ever since. To my dad's credit, the second I showed an interest, he learned everything their was to know about hockey so that he could support me.

"Disk". I don't know why, its just the only thing that I could think of.

  5. When my old man was younger he lived in Manhattan, and played for a PAL league with a few of the Mullen Brothers, the old guy was a Goalie and I guess I got those Keeper Genes. At a young age I started playing street hockey. At first I think I was a Isle's fan(the Devil's didn't exist yet) somehow I became a heck of a goalie. Our town had huge pick-up street games normally about 6 guys on weekdays just near our block, then on weekends most kids from school would go over to the tennis courts and have 20 or more players, line changes and all.Somewhere during my grade school years the Devils came around and have been my team since.I started skating late almost 13. Trained like a nut, transferred to a school with a team, then excelled up to Jr. A!!!

    Bonus::Donut,biscuit,pog,slider,disk,i... Banana, Czech-chip ,rubber,tic-tock,flip-flop, hip-hop, hip-hop-opotomus!!

  6. My cousin was captain of the varsity High School Team his senor yr.

I went to alot of gms and was hooked

    Bonus: The Buckeye

"The Buckeye squirts free, onto Broten's stick and he beats Barasso for the goal"

"Krupp lets it go and Ricci tips the Buckeye past Brodeur for the goal"

"Lets look at the replay. A one-timer by Spacek and the buckeye catches Drury's left eye"

  7. Because I grew up deep south around a bunch of northern transplants. I HATED the southern USA so I focused all I could on the North and that included hockey. Been a fan since and P-R-O-U-D to say I am now a CANADIAN! Now I am 32 and could not imagine ANYTHING else being the greatest sport and country.

  8. Family member. My dad was a fan growing up,l and started following the Hurricanes after the 2002 run. He got me hooked during the 2006 run, and yeah, it was pretty immediate.

Never changed a team, and won't for college, at least where I am.

What to call a puck? Vulcanized rubber disk perhaps? Perhaps plug- as in a plug of rubber. I have another that would not be appropriate for this board and would probalby get me banned.

  9. It was the boys in my neighborhood.

As a young child I nearly died from a severe head trauma. As a result, my parents kept me away from contact sports, hockey being at the top of the list. Being a bit of a tomboy, I always hung oot with the boys in the neighborhood. It was this 'gang' that introduced me to street hockey and the Philadelphia Flyers. They loaned me their equipment and taught me how to play. I absolutely loved it! Eventually my parents broke down and bought me my own stick. It's still one of my prized possessions, that vintage 1974 Bobby Clarke street stick. The Flyers are still my favorite team & Clarke still my favorite player.

Bonus: you know me Joe. The answer is unwaveringly BISCUIT.

  10. My Brothers mostly and somewhat my uncle. My brothers played so I was constantly at the rink, I fell in love with the sport from watching my brothers play and then I finally convinced my mom to let me play and I found a whole new love for it, My uncle was my coach for about 4 years and he helped me grow my love of playing it and getting better.

    Bonus: Little Black Disc :]

  11. Once I realized that the Sharks were on a 3 game win streak, I watched one game and got hooked! I was a hockey fan when I was younger but then I lost interest in the sport (because of girls, going to college, making new friends made me 'forget' about the sport) until 1999. I never followed an NHL team when I was young because there was no team in Nor-Cal and I am a fan of where I live, except the Warriors.

    Bonus- A plate

  12. i dont know i was born into a hockey/caps loving family and when i was growing up they were making the playoffs every year and my hero was peter bondra so i ws pretty pissed when they traded him.  That trade kind of led me away from the caps plus the fact that they sucked so i started likin the stars cause the won the cup the year after the caps failed to and then went back the year after that.  but im still a loyal caps fan more than a stars fan.

    i dont know

  13. everyday before school my brother would watch the hockey highlightes on TV and id just start watching them to and then id start watching the sens games after seeing their highlightes.Im still a sens fan and ya i was hooked after one game

ironicaly my brother is a leafs fan

  14. My Dad, three brothers, Uncle, 2 cousins, and Mom all played ice hockey. I was always at the rink, never got to do anything else on my weekends other then hockey. My one brother was invited to try out for the Chilliwack Chiefs but he was in a car accident a month before and now has a crushed disk in his back. I played ball hockey in school and field hockey, but i really never had the time to watch NHL until i graduated. So hockey is in my blood!

I would rename the puck to "thingamagig", trying saying that over and over again during a game.

  15. My whole family I guess but mostly my parents as my older borthers probably would've sold me to the gypsies instead of taking me to see the Owls.  We lived not too far from the old Stadium Arena where the Grand Rapids Owls played and went to every home game.  The fighting (on the ice, in the stands n in the parking lot) totally intrigued me and I was hooked at the ripe old age of well ummmm I don't remember but my family went to games before I was born so I guess that would be one of my first memories whenever they started showing up.  Then when cable became available I think I was maybe 6, we got it and started watching hockey night in Canada, became a staunch Wings fan shortly after that and lived through those horrendous "dead wings" years.  And yet today, even after all these years the only team I love more than the Wings is whichever one my boy is on.

    hhhmmmmm - Hostess Ding Dongs?

  16. My dad. I was hooked within the first five minutes. and its still the blackhawks

    bonus: my dad's burgers

  17. It was my dad and my uncle. I grew up watching both the Devils and the Rangers, depending on who I was with. To this day I am a Devils fan, which means my uncle lost out.

However, now I am also a fan of the Phoenix Coyotes because my best friend from the time I was in grade school's dad was a former hockey player who now coaches that team.

  18. My friend got me into hockey during the first round of the Stnaley Cup playoffs in 2004 (I was immediately 'hooked'), I guess you could say I jumped onto the bandwagon, but I've never jumped off since. The Flames are my favorite team no matter what other people say, or how badly they may play some games.

    Bonus- No idea.

  19. my dad grew up within walking distance of the old spectrum in philly, so it was only natural he got me into the flyers.  plus, having season tickets my entire life didnt help alleviate my addiction.  i will never stop bleeding orange, but i root for the capitals and the blackhawks when the flyers arent on.

and it would have to be called a disc, or my personal favorite, a flyer.

  20. My parents got me into it. My dad was a Leaf fan, my mother was a Habs fan. Confrontation is in my blood. For whatever reason, I've always been a Leaf fan, my wife is a Habs fan. Life is good.

Calling it a puck is so much more convenient than its original name. Now kids aren't fumbling through their wallets when asked "who brought the rubber thing?" down at the pond.

  21. My father. I wasn't "hooked" right away. I mean I was a casual watcher from the time I was 6 to the time I was 11, and then when I was 11 I started becoming a die hard fan.

My dad is the only reason I can watch hockey. My mother hates it. She thinks it's the devils sport or something.....who really knows, but my dad is amazing when it comes to hockey. He's willing to go to any game or go to any hockey site with me even if it means giving something up. So, I owe everything I know to him.

Well, I didn't actually have a favorite. I listened to all Pittsburgh and Washington games.......I really liked them both equally. Then Tampa came into the picture, and my dad really introduced me to the Canadiens. But the Penguins were always a little more important  than everyone else, and the Penguins grew on me more and more. Washington still stayed in the picture, but they stayed behind the Penguins.

BONUS........I'm not in a creative mood. I'll probably say something cheesy and corny, so I better not say anything at all.

  22. it was my grandma. yes i was hooked right away but i wasn't like a die-hard fan until the sharks went to the stanley cup finals in 2004. then the whole year of the lockout i was really bummed. but when the 2005-2006 season started i became a die-hard fan!! & yes it is, i've always been a fan of the sharks, ever since the day my grandma got me hooked. my grandma taught me everything there was too know about hockey.

bonus: probably a black pancake or waffle lol.

  23. My dad and my cousin. Well basically my whole family loves hockey, so it was just natural for me to like it too. And I have always had the same favorite team-the Wings.

Well people already call it a biscuit, so I guess that..

  24. No one really... I am the youngest in the family so ever since I was young my brothers and sisters would always be watching hockey! I guess since they were watching I had to and like the rest of my sibling i just got addicted to it. My whole family are leafs fan and I have been ever since I started watching! But I guess I owe it to my brother the most he made me start playing the game and understanding it more!

    Bonus- ahh......I have no idea!!!

  25. Yup, hooked from the second my dad put me on skates at 3 years old. That night, I also pulled my mom down when I fell and she consequently broke her wrist. Ooops

I got better. Now playing for 35+ years. yikes.

Plus, my dad had Bruins' season tickets for 25 years, so that helped for sure.

JOE, yes, I am 38...yikes again!

    Puck- biscuit, disk, orbicular

  26. Well i guess it started when my friend called me up to go to a game with her, they had to other seats so it was me and my dad. From there, we started going to more and more games (blackhawks of course). I wasnt hooked immediatley i was probably more intrested in the funny last names of players than the game but by the 2nd or 3rd game i was hooked!

Bonus- hockey ball...dumb but u know like soccerball basketball baseball

  27. My cousins were all huge Leaf fans so I guess it rubbed off on me. I wasn't hooked immediately, I became a fan gradually. For the full (and very long) story check my answer for this question:

And it's always been the same team, I could never switch loyalties.

BONUS: They would probably call it a hockey ball, they have the "volleyball", "basketball", and "baseball", why would they break the tradition. Or maybe they would call it a hockey disc? Who knows....

  28. Well my dad dragged me to a local hockey game when i was like 10 After that game i really enjoyed hockey. That was just a local team though. I didn't become a fan of the nhl til i was 13 when i saw the hurricanes vs oilers stanley cup finals, then i became obsessed with hockey. But i am still a fan of the hurricanes, not so much that local team.

Bonus:hockey disc,   sorry couldn't come up with anything creative

  29. Being a kid stuck in the house and bored on winter nights.  I used to watch the Rangers in the mid 60's.  I even rooted for the St. Louis Blues to win the cup the 1st 3 times they made the finals.  Later, I discovered that my mom had been a Rangers fan in the 1940's.  So hockey also helped me bond with my mom.  You should have seen her at Rangers and later at Devils games.

As far a the puck name, I kinda like the french La Rondele or however you spell it.  Or it could be called the "Bisquit" since it goes in the basket.

  30. I got intrested when I first came to colorado and I saw kids hitting each other and slaping a puck around. My mom just went to an arena to see local soccer places around (I hated soccer then and now.). I told her I wanted to play and I quickley acceled at it. I guess I could say my dad hooked me cause he played when he was little. My dad was proud of me cause he's canadien, and my mom soon got used to the sport. I now play A Midget hockey and High School Hockey. I would say I was hooked immediatley and yes I still root for the Avs today as I did back then.

Bonus- Idk. I like "puck" the way it is. I can't think of anything else to call it.

  31. well i guess i would have to say both my aunt and my stepdad got me into hockey. i can say that from the first game i watched i was hooked. it got even worse when i went to my first game instead of sitting at home watching it. well its always been the same college team (gophers) that i root for and thats never going to change. my favorite nhl teams have kind of changed from the wild to the penguins but i guess i do root for the wild more, yet i have more penguins stuff around in my room and closet. hmm...so i dont know which to say is my favorite.

Bonus- the cheaper way to get rid of that toothache...
