i would tend to think that all second places are about the same - they are the first losers. wasn't there a racing giant who said that - oh yeah, ricky bobby.

there are plenty of other stats that very often show that the second place (or third or fourth) had a much better race than the winner (power rankings, quality passes, laps led, etc).  but as far as i know, all second places pay the same money and points...well almost.
