Biblical genealogy is a study of the familial relationships of biblical characters, most notably the Patriarchs (all those begets in Genesis), the Kings of Israel and Judah, and the ancestry of Jesus Christ as found in the beginning chapter of Matthew, who wants to establish that Jesus is of the house and lineage of David.  Interestingly enough, the descent Matthew gives is through Joseph not Mary.
