I have 4 kids and I need a simple recipe that doesn't have meat included with it. I'd take any suggestions.

  1. I do this one all the time - I also put it with veal parmesan or over manicotti.

Cook fresh or frozen garlic in a bit of oil (kids love garlic)

1 Large tin of tomatoes chopped

1  small tin (7 oz) tin of plain tomato sauce

    1/4 teaspoon thyme

    ground black pepper

    Also as others said:

    cooked spaghetti

    oil

    parmesan

have some red pepper flakes on hand for those who want to spice it up a bit

Easy Alfredo ( a chef taught me this one)

Cream  heat it slowly.  You can use half and half a cup or two

Parmesan cheese as much as you want

1 cheese slice to pick up the flavour a bit and smooth it out.

Dash of garlic if you want.

  2. Make the pasta per normal. After draining return to the pan on medium low heat. Toss in olive oil, chopped tomatoes, and capers. A little sauted garlic and onions is also good.  Very simple and kids enjoy the new experience with capers.  Sliced green or black olives also work if you don't have capers. Top with parm.

  3. ANGEL HAIR PASTA & QUICK TOMATO SAUCE

    1/2 c. olive oil

    2 cloves garlic, finely slivered

2 c. diced fresh plum tomatoes

2 c. diced canned plum tomatoes

Pinch salt & pepper to taste

    4 tbsp. chopped parsley

3 c. peeled, slivered yellow onions

    1/4 lb. angel hair pasta

Heat 1/4 cup oil over low flame in saucepan. Add garlic and cook until it just softens. Do not brown. Add tomatoes, salt and pepper. Stir and cook, uncovered, over medium heat for 10 minutes. Add 2 tablespoons parsley and remove from heat. Keep warm.

While sauce is cooking, line a cookie sheet with aluminum foil. Spread onions on sheet, toss with 1/4 cup oil and sprinkle with black pepper. Place under preheated broiler, 3-4 inches from flame, and cook until onions are wilted and slightly brown, 5-6 minutes. Carefully stir onions around a bit while they are broiling. Cook pasta until just tender. Drain and rinse.

To serve, divide tomato sauce among 4 bowls or plates. Place equal portions of pasta on each plate, in center of tomato sauce. Top with broiled onions and sprinkle with remaining 2 tablespoons parsley. Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese if desired.

hope this helps.   good luck and enjoy.

  4. my favorite is to heat olive oil in a pan on low, add a few whole cloves of garlic and let it "simmer' for a few minutes. Remove the garlic cloves, then toss the oil with your cooked pasta.  Then serve topped with some parmesan cheese.

I add cooked shrimp too, but you requested no meat ...

  5. Just boil some water with a little bit of kosher salt in it (to season the pasta) and boil until the pasta is "al dente" (firm to the bite, or however you like it). Drain it thoroughly, and toss with some fresh parmesan cheese and a little olive oil, and maybe a little crushed garlic and basil or parsley if you're feeling adventurous. Tasty!
