Who has been on a Cruise ship?

Can you tell me did you like it? How long was the Cruise? Where did you go? and From what port? How much did you spend once you were on board?

I've been on a few cruises. The longest one I've been in was 9 days. I love going on them. How much you spend on the ship depends if you are a drinker or not. Besides the gratuity that you need to give, you don't have to spend too much.

Just an FYI: bring some reading materials on the days you are at sea for one or two days.

Cruises are great, but don't go for more than a week.  Two was too much.  Royal Caribbean or Norwegian.  Pick a cabin amidships.  Left from Miami.  Virgin Is., Bahamas, Haiti, Jamaica, Barbados, Martinique, Netherlands Antilles, Venezuela, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico.

Spent "on board"?  just cocktails.  Spent on shore?  Wife has an 8th degree  black belt in shopping.  Probably a few K.

All considered, I loved it.  Recommendation:  Diet for a month before you leave.

Onboard you can spend just the tip charges or you can spend 300,600 upwards of $1000,00.  Its totally up to you.   Price of the cruise covers your cabin, meals in the main dining area for each day you are sailing.  some things that are not covered are, souvenirs,alcoholic drinks, photos,specialty restaurant charges, TIPs, Computer access, Phone calls off the ship. the list goes.. on..

Well being that I get paid to Travel, I have been on many cruises.  But I am young, so I only cruise Carnival.  They are the best for entertainment, and fun.

Now if you want to play alot of sports.  Royal Carribean is good.  They have B-ball, rock climbing, surfing, etc, on the ships.  Carnival has b-ball, but normally right behind the ship blower...  So it is hard to play.  anyhow ports Cozumel, Nassau, Free Port, Costa Maya.  All of which were ok.  I do not suggest the Bahamas as a first port though.  Not that great,.

Early this summer, my wife and I spent 7 days cruising Hawaii on NCL's Pride of Hawaii. Beautiful ship, but very large.

We loved it, although there were so many people we sometimes had trouble getting the dining room we wanted. That's one of the big advantages of freestyle cruising, but also one of the biggest weaknesses. If too many people want to do the same thing at the same time, it can be a problem.

We also had some service issues in the Alazar dining room. My guess is that we got less experienced people working their way up to the Grand Pacific dining room and the specialty restaurants.

The food was excellent, whether in the dining room or the buffet. On board, the only cash we spent was for booze and soft drinks. We're not big drinkers, so it wasn't too bad.

[Tip: If you're a big soda drinker, buy your soda in port and stash it in your cabin fridge. Don't try it with booze, though. The ship will either charge you a "corkage fee" for wine, or put it in a locked area until the cruise is over. Beer, wine and liquor are major cash cows for cruise lines.]

We did rack up a few hundred dollars on shore excursions. On our 7 day cruise, we took four tours-- two on Maui, one each on Kauai and the Big Island. We also spent a couple of days on either end of the cruise in Honolulu. I just love the energy, especially along Waikiki.

On one hand, we wish we had had more time in some of the ports. On the other, we got to see all the major islands and built a list of places we want to see and things we want to do on future trips. That may be the real biggie for cruising-- finding the places you want to see more of.

If you are going to go on a cruise, be willing to spend some extra cash and go with a nice cruiseliner like carnival, or norwegian, etc. Last summer I took a cruise on Louis cruises from Athens to Kusadasi, Turkey. It was the Sea Diamond (haha, the one that sunk a couple of months ago). It was a bad ship. Very run down, not any of the modern ammenaties that you see on TV adds. The rooms were so small too!!! Crazy small, and no AC. It was boiling in those rooms. As far as the sites were, everything was fine, but the ship itself sucked. Please take my advice and pick a nice cruiseliner.

I have been on 4 total cruises(5th booked for March), and wish that I could go on them a few times a year!!  They are so much fun; its the best way to be in paradise...

My first cruise was on the Celebrity Horizon, which isn't in operation anymore...it was a 7 day to Bermuda out of Manhattan...I don't remember much, but what I do remember is getting seasick from the remnanse of a hurricane...i also remember in Bermuda, going to the caves which were amazing...it was beautiful and awesome...strongly reccomned going to Bermuda on a cruise

My second cruise was a free one...i dont remember which ship it was, although it was 40 years old...my family and i did a timeshare and got this 2 day cruise to the  Bahamas...it was out of ft lauderdale...all that i remember is that the beaches in nassau were absolutely gorgeous

My third cruise was in 2004 onboard the Disney Wonder...we spent 4 days at disney world, and then were supposed to have a 3 day cruise to the private island, Castaway Cay...it was out of port canaveral...this ship was amazing...the restaurants were so well thought out...there was animators palate where the walls changed as you would eat...the food was fantastic, and the activites were great...all over the ship was decorated with disney characters, and there is a beautiful statue of ariel in the lobby...it is a very kid friendly ship, but is amazing because its also very teen and adult friendly as well...I absolutely loved this cruise...except for one thing that scared me, my family, and everyone on the boat...hurricane frances was in our path of castaway cay...everyone was freaking out, not knowing what was going to happen...what happened was we had to go to Cozumel, Mexico(I dont mean to make it sound bad) instead of the private island...nobody got seasick, thankfully and everyone was relieved that we didn't get caught in the storm...so we ended up being on the ship was 2 extra days...each cabin was awarded $300 onboard credit because the cruiseline felt bad...but one more bad thing...hurricane frances had destroyed our port...so we had anextra day at sea before the daptain decided to port us in port everglades...this was definetly an adventure, but was a great cruise!!

My fourth and most recent cruise was on the Celebrity Century...it was a 5 day out of miami, florida...this was in april of 2007...we were going to key west and grand cayman...this ship was gorgeous...every single part of it was beautifully decorated...the food was 5 stars and the staff helpful, knwoing exactly what you wanted...the pools were well taken care of, and lots of pool side activites...we just went shopping in key west, but didn't find much other than a small flee market...we had an excursion in grand cayman...we would go on a 20 person boat which would take us out to coral reef...we had 3 stops...the first, we swam with stingrays which were amazingly tame, yet were wild...the second and third, we saw coral and lots of fish down in the bottom of the ocean...it was called Captain Bryan's and I strongly reccomend it or something similar...This was my favorite cruise so far...

My fifth cruise which is booked at the end of march is on Royal Carribean's Explorer of the Seas...it is out of Bayonne, New Jersey and is going to Labadee, Haiti, Casa de Campo, Dominican Republic, St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, and San Juan, Puerto Rico...I am very excited about this cruise, there is a promanade which is longer than a football field...it has food, shopping, entertainment, etc...

-->Now on all of these cruises, my family and I spent around $100...all we bought is souveniers, no drinks, or anything like that...

~~> Now if you have never been on a cruise, I strongly reccomend it...the service, food, entertainment, ports of call are all amazing...cruises are the best way to see the world...jus about everything is included, so why not?

I went on the Carnival Valor. Nice ship, great ports of call. Always activities on board, and always fun at port. Top three family lines....(especially by price)..: 1)Royal Caribbean-frequently featured on Travel Channel best Cruises... 2) Carnival- fun family ships... 3)NCL- not top notch but nice. Once on board about $10 per person per day are added as gratuity (standard), but often paid pre-cruise. We purchased a drink card so was one fixed price for non-alcoholic drinks. Other then that once port and other fees are paid not too bad minus drinks. On Carnival they do have food shops where you do have to pay which is a rip-off because buffets are free. Cruises are a ton of fun though. Everyone loves them! Have Fun!

I have been on seven cruises.  The longest was two weeks in Alaska.  The shortest was three nights to Baja Mexico.  One was eight nights to the Mexican Riviera and the other four were all one week (two to the Western Caribbean, one to the Eastern Caribbean and another one to the Mexican Riviera).

One cruise left from Vancouver, Canada.  One from Port Canaveral in Florida.  Two left from Miami and three left from Los Angeles.

Future cruises include a cruise from Los Angeles to Miami through the Panama Canal (13 nights on the NCL Jade), one week in the Southern Caribbean on the RCI Serenade of the Seas (out of San Juan), five nights on the Carnival Victory to Canada (out of New York) and one week to the Mexican Riviera on the RCI Mariner of the Seas (out of Los Angeles).

My on board account charges (which include most tips) ranged from $300 to $1,200.

I really enjoy the cruises because you are not stuck on some bus with nothing to do.  You do not have to follow someone else's tour schedule.  You only have to unpack and pack once.  Days at sea are incredibly relaxing.  In one week you get a chance to see three or four different cities and yet you don't have to fly or drive.  Your room is cleaned for you.  Your meals are cooked for you.  There is even entertainment at night.  And this is all included (though you can spend more for meals in the specialty restaurants, alcoholic drinks, casino, spa ...).
