  1. http://www.louvre.fr/llv/pratique/billet...

this is the offical site for the louve.  you don't need to order tickets in advance, but here is all the info.....

plan on a few visits minimum....doesn't pay to rush thru....

a nun hipchecked me trying to get ahead of me to see the mona lisa.....tip:  go to the basement w/ the egyptian artifacts...you won't regret it

  2. I went back in 1998.  This is a REALLY great museum.  I don't know about getting tickets in advance, but it didn't take us very long to stand in line and get tickets to go in.  Unless it's changed, you can buy one or two day tickets.  My friend I and started out looking at all the attractions pretty slow and steady.  We realized that we were running out of time (we went in afternoon), so we started walking very fast through most of the paintings, stopping to look at the really interesting ones.  The end of our tour was the Mona Lisa.  Exiting the Louvre, we were able to see the Eiffel tower fully lit up and about a half an hour walk away.  Take a good camera and some water to drink.  Also comfortable shoes and lots of time.

  3. I have been to the Louvre, it was awesome, very easy to get lost from you're friends in there :) Someone else got the tickets for me since it was on a tour schedule, so I couldn't tell you how to purchase it. All I can really say about the tickets is that it was purchased on a Tuesday, and we went Thurday so we could have more time to go inside and explore. You want to make your visit to the Louvre planned one because you want to spend the entire day looking at the artwork inside so you don't misout on the good ones. Oh, and don't even plan to bring a camera to take a picture of the Mona Lisa, they don't allow for people to take photograghs of it anymore. ( I went this year, so the information given by the person who went in 1998 is a little outdated I think :p)

  4. my family and i took a subway directly into it, which worked out really well

im pretty sure we ordered the tickets ahead of time, because the line we had to go through was only about 5 people long and then another 5 people long line for people to get their bags searched

if its not a huge hassle id recommend ordering your tickets ahead of time, because (while not the best source) i saw some teen movie where theyre travelling in europe and they wait in line for what looked like it was supposed to be about 20-40 minutes

    have fun

p.s. make sure to see the mummies, was probably the highlight of the museum. the more famous statues and paintings like the mona lisa are SMOTHERED in Japanese tourists taking pictures

good luck, have fun, paris is a blast, my favorite city of all time now, also make sure to eat plenty of pastries every morning
