I would like to do this as my career but the only college I can go to would be community college. Is it worth it? What can I make. I do love to cook and think I have some skill for it. Also I think I can transfer to a very good culinary school after the 2 years in Trident.. does this sound like a good plan? Just give me experiences also.. I have a 13 month old

  1. After  you  graduate  from  Community  College  Culinary  School,  you  will  have  to  take  a  lot  of  non-descript  jobs  that  only  pay  minimum  wage.  This  continues  for  about  10 - 11  yrs.  before  you'll  be  hired  for  a  good  Pastry  Chef  position.  The  Food  Industry  thinks  the  only  place  for women  is  the  token  Pastry  Chef.

The  hours  are  very  long  and  usually  6  days  a  week.  No  time  for  family.  12  hrs.  a  day  is  not  unusual.

  2. I have been a chef for 28 years..I notice you have a 13 month old child..Dont even consider a job in the hospitality industry while the child is still dependant on you..Cooking professionally requires dedication, passion and commitment. The same as your child does.

Cooking is a very rewarding career.Nothing gives me more pleasure than seeing my patrons leave satisfied and smiling. Good luck.
