Although Tiger has done more to popularize the sport, Jack has done similar things in his time to popularize it. Jack has also done quite a bit in the way of designing courses and promoting the sport through charities and so forth.

The clear winner is Jack, but Tiger is really just getting started.

Tiger Woods, by his presence and performance alone.  Not to take anything away from Jack Nicklaus, but Tiger is the biggest thing in history to come along for the game.

Arnold Palmer.

No. Seriously. The postwar popularity of golf owes itself to Arnold Palmer. Palmer made it a television event; he was the first to line up major sponsorship deals. His handshake deal with Mark McCormack is what led to the creation of the super sports agent franchise IMG, which is where Tiger gets his endorsement money. Arnie's Army drove golf fandom. No Palmer, no golf as we know it.

After Arnold Palmer, then Jack. Like Palmer, Jack laid the foundations for the game as we know it today. Without Palmer and Nicklaus, Tiger isn't nearly as popular.

Tiger easily.  Ratings man!  Ratings!!!  No one watches golf if he isn't playing unless you are a pure golf fan.  I'm a golf fan and have watched certain tournaments when he isn't playing.

i'm gonna say jack because he promoted the game more to the world by playing more regularly overseas then tiger does. plus he has set the standards that tiger is chasing now.

Tiger hands down.  He has helped to make golf the booming industry it is now.  Looking at his endorsement deals and how oftne we see him on tv. Oh and not to mention that he has his own building at the Nike Complex in Beaverton.  And if I am not mistakent the first athlete to make it to a billion dollars.  Sorry, but the old time golfers didn't have near the influencial power tiger has on the game.
