  1. I love it.  Amtrak has seen it's better days as the government has decided to subsidize airlines and forget about rails.  It's much like riding a bus.

Spend the extra cash for a roomette.  You have a little room to yourself with a wide window and the food is free, and much more better than any airline's.

  2. I've been on Amtrak from Trenton New Jersey to Washington  DC. Its become the way to go over an airplane or car.

I have a friend that is a afraid to fly, and she will go from Trenton to Fort Lauderdale Florida. She will pay the extra to have a roomette, but will still be quite fatigued.

Its unfortunate that the government hasn't invested more into the passenger rail service like the highways and airports. They just need to lay the foundation and the competition will come.

  3. I work for the RR repairing tracks. I would not ride on Amtrack because I see how bad the track condition are. We patch the tracks to the minimal standards.

  4. It's a lot of fun... but it's slow and depending on the line it can cost a bit....  I recommend doing it at least once :)

  5. The last time I rode Amtrak, was in 1985. I plan on taking it to Connecticut later this year. I'm looking forward to it.
