My unit commander said a general was "modeling" the new uniform and it has the same pattern as the Air Force uniform (like a tiger stripe design) but has the same colors as the ACU's....TRUE? Anyone?

  1. The Army periodically tests new uniforms.  Currently my unit is doing a 90 day field test of 2 new designs.  Both uniforms look just like ACUs from a far, but close-up you can notice several small design changes.  The biggest change in the test uniforms is new fabric.  The designers took a look at many complaints from Soldiers and tried to remedy those complaints with some modifications.  The use of "Hook and pile tape" (Velco (TM) is the commercial name) has been reduced but not enough in my opinion.  I don't know anything about an ACU colored tiger stripe design, or about sew on stuff.  I do know that the ACU is the first uniform that slowly destroys itself in the wash (the hooks snag on every semi loose thread).  I guess that is why it only has a 6-month wear life.

  2. There is NO new utility / work uniform. The ACU is it. If you have an AKO account, you can log on and access the link for "ALARACT's" (ALL ARMY ACTIVITIES). The last one concerning uniforms was #202/2008 (describing the dress blues)

  3. Multicam is the new work uniform they are thinking about adopting. I saw some guys at Fort Benning testing them out. I don't think they'll be fielded anytime soon to the entire Army though since they've spent so much money on the ACU.

  4. I have heard the same stuff. There is talk of modifying of the ACUs, then it stops. I have not heard anything other than what you posted so it is just in the RUMINT Net. I hope we don't go to the AF ABU purple monsters or their heavy materials. We might lose velcro some places and put buttons back. Things will come down the pipe once the Army figures enough Soldiers want to fix it. I hope they fix that blasted right collar. I fought that thing in Iraq for 14months lol.

Here's about the Army's Future Uniform System that started alot of the tal last year and caused the rumors to start.

  5. No, they're changing the dress uniform, thats it.

  6. Well first the new Air Force uniforms are the same colors as the Army ACU's, as you stated though slightly different pattern (mixed digital and tiger stripes) and the Air Force issues green boots and the Army tan boots.

There are always new things on the horizon, one that has been looked at (maybe put out to the troops in Iraq) was a solid green shirt body made from something like tee-shirt material with ACU sleeves and the name tag and rank on the sleeve for wear under body armor in hot climates.

At this time officially the only new uniform scheduled to be fielded is the new Class-A uniform which mimics the current Dress Blues with just enough changes to force those who currently have dress blues to buy new ones. Gotta love it!
