My Dr prescribed me foricet and vicodin and they seem not to work at all. I went to the er to get a CT done and the dr told me that there is nothing wrong with my brain. I figured that they would be migraines but why won't the meds help the pain? I don't wanna go back and get another prescription on different kind of drugs. Hellp me with a over the counter drug.

  1. I had migraines for 11 years.  They began shortly after my 3rd child was born.  At the time, I didn't know what they were, but eventually was diagnosed with migraines.  There was no over the counter medications that cured my migraines or even made them more tolerable.  I tried every one of them with no success.  The only thing I could do was go to bed with the door closed, the curtains drawn and give strict orders not to bother me unless someone was bleeding profusely or the house was burning down.  Then, quite shockingly, after 11 years of reliably taking birth control pills my husband and I conceived our fourth (and last) baby.  Quite oddly, my last migraine was when I was early in my pregnancy and had no idea I was pregnant.  After she was born I have never had a migraine since.  I still get some doozy headaches, but they are not migraines.  When I was having migraines frequently my doctor did prescribe a medication that worked somewhat.  I am sorry that I don't know the name since it was some years ago.  When I sensed a migraine coming on I would take 2 pills.  If the symptoms were still there I could take 1 pill after 1 hour and then another pill an hour after that.  It did not prevent the migraine but did make the pain less severe and I could usually at least function enough to stay upright until bedtime.  Everyone's migraines are unique to them and medications work differently for different people.  At least for me, nothing over the counter even made a dent in my migraines.

  2. i alwas use excedrine migrane..works the best cuz i get them all the time..really bad..and they have different kinds

  3. There are many "types" of migraines, and there are no over-the-counter medications that will alleviate any.

My ex husband began experiencing severe headaches when he was 12. His parents took him to many doctors, and he was on a myriad of treatments, including various drugs--ergotomine and vascular injections.

He was finally diagnosed, at the age of 20, with Horton's Syndrome (cluster headaches). There is no cure for this type of headache, and no over-the-counter drug will alleviate such. My ex husband spent the 26 years of our marriage injecting himself with prescribed drugs. The only medication that ever alleviated my husband's pain was Demerol, which he took by injection at an emergency room, or was prescribed in "pill" form.

Oh, yes, there was another drug he used to alleviate his pain--alcohol. My husband was an alcoholic by the age of 30. He hid his alcoholism very well--teaching in a public school for over 30 years. We divorced after 26 years of marriage, he married three more times, was in and out of rehab, near death twice, developed diabetes, cardiovascular problems, and died of a massive cerebral hemorrhage while walking from his bedroom to his kitchen.

There be nothing "wrong" with your brain; but, if you are experiencing severe headaches, you need to consult every specialist you can find.

  4. Motrin 800mg

  5. a friend uses nortriptylene, or nortriptyline

  6. *Well I get Migraines once in a while and what seems to help me are 2 tablets of Excedrine for Migraines 500mg those are the best ones that I know of. Kinda odd that ur Dr. would Prescribe Vicadin I would think that would make u sick, but it affects everybody differently.

*Did u recently change ur diet or stop drinking caffeine, sugars, proteins because that can also have allot to do with it. It can also be ur eyes like lights the computer is another one.

I hope this helps u and I hope ur migraines go away.

  7. There are pain-relieving medications and preventive medications that are very effective for migraines.

    There is good information here:

You need to work with your doctor to figure out what is best for you.
