hungary has more....however, in the case of US and China....us has more medals, but china has more gold, and it is a significant amount more of gold so china is winning....

give every gold a value of 3 points, every silver 2 and every bronze 1 and then see who has more points

Your logic is flawed, but that happens with people who were only born a week ago, which is when the USA started counting by total and not gold like they did in Athens in 2004 - http://asp.usatoday.com/sports/olympics/... - see Russia there in 3rd with 92 total medals behind China with 63 total medals.

Since you seem to think that a medal is a medal is a medal, ask Michael Phelps if he is happy to swap his 8 gold with some bronze - after all, it means the exact same thing. Means that he didn't really beat Cavic at all, because Cavic has a medal so he too is the Olympic champion of that race - right?

Simple math would tell you that Hungary has more medals. I guess the point you are trying to make is who is higher on the medal table...which would of course be Panama.
