get a good firewall and do not rely on microsofts crappy one.

Mine comes with my Trend Micro Internet Security. Nothing has got on mine for eight years including viruses, Trojans, Spyware, Adware, or any other ware for that matter!

If you have a router most of these have a hardware firewalls, and is recommended that you disable any other software firewalls including windows own.

I have not used any software firewall for several years and have not had a problem

Yeah, microsoft's own firewall and antispyware program is not very reliable. I used it before and it doesn't warn me about anything. I don't even know if it's working!

Now I use ZoneAlarm along with Avast and it's great!

You seem to be trying to be helpful by giving some advice on security, but this makes me suspicious, are you actually trying to find out who has lousy security for an ulterior motive???

Make sure you turn off windows firewall first if you load another one to prevent slow downs/conflicts. And make sure you take the time to set it up properly.
