Who has played better golf – Jim Furyk or Brandt Snedeker?
Jim Furyk and Brandt Snedeker, both have very uncharacteristic golf swings, they are unique somewhat. The 31-year-old Snedeker’s swing is very quick, he does not take much time on the ball like other players do most of the time.
Whereas Jim, now a veteran in the tour, has a very loopy sort of golf swing, this is very unusual. His swing has earned him a few nick names from the fans as well, title such as “The Grinder” and “The Business Man”.
There is one difference between them however. Jim is one-time major winner, where as Snedeker has been close to lifting a major trophy but has not lifted one yet.
Jim won the 2003 US Open but it is the other American who has been in some hot form recently, especially in this year.
Jim Furyk has been on the decline for some time now but Brandt Snedeker has shown some promise, especially after his record score at the Open Championship. Let us compare the seasons of both the players so far.
If we look at the stats, there is not much difference between them. Although Snedeker has managed to win more prize money than Furyk, overall there is not much difference between them.
Jim Furyk has so far featured in 14 events this year and has missed the cut twice, not bad, but the American has not been able to bag in a trophy this year.
His best finish was at the Transitions Championship, where he finished second. However, his performances in the majors this year have been pretty good. In all the three majors so far, he made the cut and at the US Open, he finished T4, which was very impressive
for the veteran.
Over all on the PGA Tour, Jim has not been able to win a title. He has currently 1,000 FedEx points as compared to Snedeker’s 1,097.
Brandt Snedeker, on the other hand, has been in sizzling form this year. In the fourteen events he played, he secured a first place finish, a third place and two other top-ten finishes.
Moreover, he has managed to win more prize money as well. Snedeker, this year, has won $2,246,939 as compared to Furyk’s $2,011,455.
In the majors this year, Snedeker has shown some promise. He finished T19 in the Masters and T3 along with Tiger Woods at the Open.
His T3 finish at the Open was really amazing. He shot 64 in the second round, equalling the course record and at one time, he was leading the Open Championship by three strokes. He too, like many others, slipped in the last round when the wind came into
play.
In the US Open, Snedeker did not play. He had to withdraw from the tournament because of a rib injury. His performance at the Open came as a surprise for everybody because just few months ago, he was struggling with the rib injury.
Coming back from such a severe injury and performing like the way he did was really an amazing effort by the 32-year-old American from Nashville, Tennessee.
Many tournaments are still to go in the season but the way Snedeker played at Royal Lytham, he will surely win a few more or at least finish among the top. Jim is on the end of his career, there is not much left for him to play for.
