I'm referring to after you get to the court house.

  1. The summons will tell you what to do.  In my experience, you have to call or log onto the courthouse website the night before jury selection.  Depending on the number of cases coming up, your group (indicated on the summons) may not even be called to report.  If your group is called, you need to be at the courthouse at the time specified on the summons.  Then you wait to be called or not for the next phase of juror selection.  If you are chosen, you probably won't have more than 3-5 days of service.

Once at the courthouse, you will watch a video then wait to see if you move to the next phase.  It's pretty painless and just takes a couple of hours or, if you're selected, a few days.  It's really a matter of the number of cases and the size of the jury pool.

  2. If you let a summons server get near you, then run!  Legally, all they have to do is give it to you.  That includes trickery!

  3. Once you receive a summons for jury duty, you usually also have instructions as to the procedure you must follow. Some areas have a phone number to call after a certain time to access if you are required to show up at the courthouse to be involved in the jury pool. This is where they select jurors. The attorneys for both sides are allowed to ask questions of potential jurors. If you are chosen, then you serve until the trial is over.
