Who has some great sample apology letters to share?

I was wondering if anyone can point me to any good websites that have sample appology letters for personal conflicts (not business).

The Story,

I have lived in my apartment for just over a year now. When I first moved in I said Hi to the women who lives in the house next door a couple of times, she never said Hi back, so I stopped.

She finally spoke to me yesterday for the first time, to tell me not to drive on the end of her driveway because it is private property and if she sees me use her driveway as a pull through again she will call the city and complain. I obviously will stay off it, even though it is a lot easier to get into my parking space that way. It is her property after all so I respect that. I have a feeling that it steams from some sort bickering/grudge that she has had for a long time with my landlord.

In an attempt to try and build some sort of rapport with her I would like to leave her an apology note with a little gift. I would like it to say something about

- Sorry for being rude and using your driveway without permission

- I have spoken with my landlord and will putting up a little flag to mark where her driveway begins so I do not accidently block it when I pull into my spot (plus she will be able to see it will eliminate the possibility of driving through)

- For her to enjoy a treat on me (Tim Hortons Gift Card $5)

- To not hesistate to speak to me about any other concerns she may have.

So anyone good at writing short apology letters. Keeping in mind I know nothing about this women, not even her name, I just do not want her to think I am ignorant of her needs.

  1. Okay, you just took the time to write all this...so how can you not write a short apology letter? It probably took longer to post the question than it would have taken to just write a quick little sorry note. With that in mind:

    Dear neighbor,

I'm so sorry for using your driveway without your permission. I have spoken with our landlord and I will make sure it doesn't happen again. I hope you will accept my apology and enjoy a treat on me, and please don't hesitate to speak to me about any other concerns you may have.

    Sincerely, ________

  2. Actually, what you have there seems pretty good. It's coming from the heart and that's what matters. Now all you have to do is put it in paragraph format.

    Dear neighbor,

My sincerest apologies for using your driveway without permission. I will be taking precautionary measures to ensure that this does not happen again.

Feel free to contact me about any other concerns that you may have as I hope that we can be on good terms.

Please accept this gift card as a gesture of goodwill.

    Sincerely,

    <name>

    Best of luck!!!

  3. Why on earth should you apologise to such an ignorant person? Complaining to the city because you drove over part of her driveway!? Fair enough if she's casually mentioned it was a problem for her, and you'd carried on doing it, but it sounds like she's just blown up at you from out of nowhere. Don't apologise, and just don't do it again.

  4. I don't think a letter of apology is warranted here; nor is a token gift.

It's nice to be friendly with neighbors, and friendly you've been and will continue to be. But when someone chastises you for something you clearly were not aware of, and then threatens to call the authorities, that person doesn't deserve any kind of note or gift.
