That means no formal training and/or no teachers of any kind.

I've always wanted to learn how to play piano. just thinking about wether I should hire a teacher or just teach myself at my own pace.

  1. Ok well I had to learn to play the recorder in grade 6

and, you see, i couldnt read the stupid notes, with the lines and the circles, and, in order to show that we were successful, we were asked to play certain songs.

Of course i couldnt read the notes, and i knew it was a waste of time anyway, so, i sat there for an hour one day in my room, goofing around with the notes and stuff.

I presented, a plus, said i did it excellent.

BUT I reccoment for you, learn the notes. :)

  2. I am completely self taught in guitar and piano. Today, after tons of hours of practice, i mastered the guitar to read, compose, arrange and work in Studio Sessions.

I practiced 18 hours a day ,believe it or not. I loved the instrument and up to this day, music is my passion.

When you love something and you put your heart in it, you will learn amazingly fast. After 6 months, I competed with people playing for 3 or 4 years.

I had dexterity and my secret to success, was to listen to many many records and playing along with them.

This developed perfect pitch and a perfect timing without ever using a metronome. Ear trining is one of the most important thing in music.

  3. i've taught myself guitar and piano. just buy some books that teach you and go.

  4. Taught myself to play guitar!

  5. I'm self teaching myself to play the flute and the piano, but I used lesson books... and my sister plays the flute. I also play the bassoon and the clarinet so that helps. I think that it is completely possible to learn the piano by yourself if you use books. They will teach you most things about it, but there are some things that only a teacher can teach you. I'd say that if you wanted to be a serious pianist, then you should get a teacher, but if you just want to know how to play it, it's not necessary.

  6. I tried my best to learn the sax...it went alright if you put the effort forth.

  7. Kevin Jonas taught himself but his dad kind of helped.

I think you should hire someone. I did!

  8. I self learned my guitar.

  9. I had a bit of help with learning to read music. Just the very basics though and I taught myself the rest out of a music theory book. I've successfully learned to play tenor sax, bass guitar, guitar, a bit of piano, flute, bass clarinet, and tuba through self-training. It all just depends on the amount of raw talent someone possesses.

Give it a shot on your own, and if things aren't working out I suggest a teacher of some sort. There are plenty of helpful videos on youtube you could watch if you get stuck and don't want to pay as well.

Piano is definitely one of those instruments you have to keep working at. It's one of the harder ones to play properly because you have to read 2 clefs at once and just know how to multi-task a lot. So, don't get discouraged if you aren't amazing when you're just starting.

  10. I taught myself how to play guitar.  basically i looked it up on the internet. read it.. then started to play! haha.

you can always look up how to play the piano on the internet... or just watch some youtube videos on how to!

  13. I taught myself how to play the clarinet
