Question:

Who has the best chance of winning the National Championship this season

Out of these 7 teams, which of them has the best chance at winning the National Title?

Georgia- they may be a bit overrated but they have Knowshon Moreno and Geno Atkins, as well as Matt Stafford. The Bulldogs' schedule is aboslutley brutal and I dont see them making it through with any less than 2 losses. Can the Bulldogs make it through that menacing schedule? But then again, could any other team that doesnt play on Sunday?

USC- the entire offense is a question mark, but the defense is stacked at every position. I dont think they can muster enough firepower to win against quality teams, but theyll be there at the end of the game. Can the offense get it done, and can Mark Sanchez stay healthy?

Ohio State- I think they have the best chance at winning it, if and only if they beat USC. If that happens, then they shouldnt have trouble running the table in the Big Ten. The defense is loaded with All Americans and the offense has playmakers and upperclassmen everywhere. The Buckeyes may have the best player on the field every game with James Laurinaitis and Beanie Wells. With all this talent and pressure, will the Buckeyes be able to handle it, and most importanlty, can they win at USC?

Oklahoma- they have a good offense and defense, but the secondary is suspect and they may not have enough experience and leadership to beat Texas, Texas Tech, Kansas, and probable Big 12 North Champion Missouri. Is Oklahoma being overlooked, or are they just not as good as OSU, UGA, and USC?

Florida- a loaded offense returns Tim Tebow and Percy Harvin as well as Chris Rainey and Louis Murphy. The defense though, which ranked last in the SEC in pass defense, is what will hold them back. The best player on that defense, Derrick Harvey, left early for the NFL. Losses against Georgia, LSU, Auburn and Michigan, the best teams they played all year, cant happen again, but at least we know the Gators can beat at least one teamt this year, Tennessee. Can the Gators win the big games against contenders and can they overcome the spotty defense?

Missouri- Chase Daniel and Jeremy Maclin will tear it up as usual, but the defense is what everyone forgets about. They are a veteran unit that has tasted the Big 12 Championship game. I think the Tigers could be good, the offense will be top 5, but do they have enough playmakers everywhere else to match up with the 5 teams above them?

LSU- I actually think LSU could repeat as National Champions if Andrew Hatch can manage the game well and not turn the ball over. An unbelieveable offensive line with All Americans Herman Johnson and Ciron Black will do alot ot help Hatch get used to SEC football, but the Receivers and Backs are good, not great. That defense is great too, with a dominant line returning Tyson Jackson and Al Woods, two All Americans. Darry Beckwith at LB is strong too. LSU is good, but will they be able to overcome their lack of an experienced QB?

  1. Thoughtful comments.  Let's start by remembering what a wild ride it was from week to week last year and realize we won't know much until several weeks into the season - at the earliest.

Georgia is tough and has an outstanding TB.  Is he enough to carry them all the way in the toughest week-to-week conference in the nation. We'll see. I'd like to see more exceptional play at the QB position to believe they can go all the way.  I hope they surprise me.

USC has an exceptional defense.  Defense wins championships.  And they always have several incredible TBs and wide receivers - among the best in the nation every season.  This year is no exception - they just reload - and have as good a chance as anyone because of the exceptional QB coaching with that program.  Strong, poised leaders who play a very proficient pro style offense.

OSU is not a good clutch team. Although Michigan is crippled this year in transition and has lost a lot of starters to transfers, OSU is quite vulnerable to losses AT Illinois, and with Wisconsin.  I like their coach, but don't like their TEAM speed/big game performances.

Oklahoma is going to be tough, and the conference has really improved overall with broader quality competition throughout the season. Their QB was a nice surprise last year, and should only get better.  They have clutch game issues as well, but this could be their year.  Uncomortable at the big game level, though, based on falling apart twice in the last 5 years.

Florida. Tebo is the real deal.  If he can distribute the ball more, take hits less (while maintaining the world class threat of his running), they could take the SEC and legitimately win it all. A first class defense is ideal, but not essential, with Tim's exceptional ability to lead a high scoring offense.  Florida could be THE surprise team of the year, and in a rock n roll world like last season (I think we'll continue to see more of them) they could emerge as a killer team.  They will pull out all the stops to beat Georgia and it will be personal with Urban vs. Mark.

Missouri.  Impressive team this past year. Still not convinced they have the foot speed at QB in their spread offense to withstand a big rush in a critical post-season game.  Their receiver speed could help compensate for that - and they have plenty.  Just not a believer in Missouri long term.  Too spotty over the last 30 years. I think - like a hot stock - they "peaked" last year and won't duplicate it.

LSU.  A football machine with a destructive defense that has enough to pound most teams into submission.  Don't worry too much about their backs, nobody gave their fullback any street cred last year, either, and his "bowling ball" sized heart ate opponents for breakfast on the routine plays, and made the big plays in critical games.  That's the leadership they need for it to happen this year.  Losing their QB to discipline issues may end up a blessing for the balance of the team. The talent depth is real at LSU.

I'm going to go with USC as the power pick - IF they end up playing on their "home turf" in the big game (don't remember which games/where are hosting what this year in the BCS).  Don't like their chances away from the west coast. Florida is a strong dark horse. Remember Florida 2 years ago - no one thought they had the personnel to go all the way.  They did.  The reason people consistently underestimate the SEC is because they have short memories, and have no concept of how tough the conference is.  Every game is a war, and nine of the 12 teams have won one or more national football championships. The talent is deep, wide and exceptionally fast.  Do not bet against them in the post season.

    Enjoyed your comments.

  2. With the run offense and defense of UGA, I'd say they have a good chance at at least a BCS bowl.

USC has a powerful team, with their fantastic defense, lead by Ray Maloluga (or however you spell that) and their offense with Rick Sanchez at QB, and their talented backfeild, their a force to be reckoned with. I wouldn't be suprised to see them in the championship game.

I wouldn't count on OSU to make to the championship game. But defenses will have trouble stopping Beinie Wells and that talented offence. I don't see them in a BCS bowl, mabey in the Capital One or Holliday Bowl.

OU is just a defence short of the championship game. I know most people say that they have the best defense in the Big 12, but they are overrated. But their offence is going to be in the top ten in the country in rushing and passing, w/ Sam Bradford and Demarko Murry. I just don't see the Sooners in the BCS bowls.

Florida has a great offence lead by none other than Tim Tebow. He will put up great numbers, mabey enough to lead his team to the SEC championship. Their defence is their weakness. Not to strong of a secondary and their LBs are lacking. Their line is alright.

I wouldn't expect them in the championship game, but most likely in the Sugar or Orange Bowl.

Their isn't much of a chance for Missouri for the championship game, with USC, UGA, and OSU, they probley won't make the BCS. Texas and OU both have the advantage over the Tigers. I wouldn't expect them to have over 9 wins.

    Forget LSU.

I say that UGA and USC will face off in the Championship game.

  3. LSU will have 3 QB's to choose from this year actually, the 2 that went through spring training and an incoming freshman.   I honestly think that gives them a better shot at the national championship than they had with Ryan Periloux as the obvious starter.   Ohio State could very well be back in the big game, even though if they probably need to be undefeated to do it.   After losing 2 in a row, they won't get the votes from the press or the coaches(both part of the BCS scoring) to jump ahead of another team with the same or better record, especially not an SEC team.

Honestly, I believe that Georgia, Florida, LSU, or Auburn can all win the SEC with a little bit of luck on their side this year, and could very easily see the conference beating itself out of National Championship contention.   Making it through that conference unbeaten would be an amazing feat...as you said....for anyone that doesn't play on sundays.

my pick(even though I think the best teams are in the SEC)

BCS National Championship game   USC vs  Oklahoma

  4. my personal pick is georgia...i think they are the most talented team in the country, and they have a ton of returning starters from a battle tested team last year...if stafford is more efficient and throws fewer interceptions they are going to be a really tough offense to stop with knowshon moreno and his 6 ypc in the backfield, not to mention that they return 9 starters from one of the best defenses in the country...the problem facing them is that the sec is especially brutal this year and when you lose in the bcs era you always run the risk of losing your national title shot

usc i think will be the only major conference team to run the table in the regular season, but they need more leadership at quarterback than mark sanchez or mitch mustain can give them, and this is why i think they'll lose the title game to georgia

ohio state is an extremely talented team also, but i think they're going to lose twice(at usc, at wisconsin) which is going to cause problems for them getting to the title game

oklahoma just needs to improve on defense, they have an explosive offense and can score points on anyone...however, the big 12, like the sec, is especially difficult this year with texas tech, kansas, and missouri returning almost all of their offensive firepower from last year(all 3 were in the top 10 in scoring offense last year)...even though they don't play missouri in the regular season this year they could well see them in the big 12 title game

florida needs some more support for tim tebow...with cornelius ingram out this team needs to have a safety valve for tebow to turn to when in trouble, and they had better find one before tebow starts forcing passes into coverage...they also need to protect him from the beating he will take and hope the defense matures before this team goes to jacksonville to play georgia in what could be the biggest game of the year

missouri i think is the best team in the big 12, they return almost every key player on both sides of the ball...if they can beat kansas once again and win the conference title game i think they have as good a chance as anyone to win the national title

lsu has no chance imo, the sec as i said is especially tough this year and breaking in a new quarterback only spells trouble...i think they fail to make the conference title game with auburn winning the sec west

  5. The Ohio State University

  6. Georgia is the best on paper, but they're in the SEC, its gonna be tough but I think they can pull a 10-2 record.

  7. NEBRASKA.

    GO HUSKERS!!!!!

  8. Well I agree with you that Georgia has a killer schedule. I would pick them if 3 of there last five games were not road games against LSU,Auburn, and Flordia. With Georgia Tech at the end, and you never know about rivalry games. So i think Flordia has the best chance, but watch out for LSU if the find a decent QB.

  9. Any SEC team, it is by far the strongest conference, hands down.

  10. Not to be rude or anything but how about you show the flaws of OSU, but to answer the question I think USC is going to win (and beat your beloved OSU to end their hopes of a title shot) because their defense is incredible

  11. Gotta go with USC...Ohio State is overrated...last year was a joke.

  12. Here are a couple of things. To the buckeye haters bashing OSU last year, I agree, a team rebuilding shouldn't be in the championship. Your beloved USC trojans should have beat a FORTY ******* POINT underdog at home. Don't blame the buckeyes, blame your loser *** trojans.

Now that I got that out of the way, let's talk football. Florida has no defense. They are similar to OSU in 06, great at the big positions(QB, and WR) but no defense = no championship. Georgia, no heart. They will get down, and lose in the big games, at least twice. They looked good beating Hawaii though. Of course that is like saying Tyson looked good beating Robin Givens.  OSU, they struggle against Wisconsin, and play them at night in Madison. Oklahoma lost to many good players. USC, with 4 new starter on the line and new QB, no chance against OSU in the second game. LSU lost 5 superstar players, and I don't care how much talent they have, they can't overcome that. Missou beats OU this season, and even with a loss, I think they make the championship to play an undefeated WVU, which has a tough enough schedule to make number 1, but not a tough enough schedule to lose. The most talented teams are OSU and USC.

  13. The Winner of USC/OSU* will have the inside track to the title game because they really have no competition within their conference.  The winner of the SEC still may not go because they may have 1 or 2 loses.  The Big XII winner may get out undefeated.  West Virginia has a good chance because they play the Big East and if they dont choke, should be undefeated.
