  1. Street Sense is not aiming toward the Haskell Invitational. I would pick him though. Curlin is probably the best pick for the Haskell.

  2. Anygiven Saturday

  3. Before I could honestly decide I would like to see some work out times from Monmouth! Every horse is different and you never know who will like the track and who doesn't. In a race such as The Haskell I always take into consideration... the horse for the course.

I just looked over all of my work out notices, and none of these horses are based at Monmouth, so I'd say it's wide open...LOL!

From that viewpoint I'd pick Curlin. I don't think Rags to Riches will run here (until the BC), she's being pointed to The CCA and possibly The Travers. Street Sense's team has stated they are aiming for the Travers also.

*****ADDITION: WOO HOO... my Derby hopeful from last year ( his 2 yo season, and early this year) Tiz Wonderful is BACK! I'm throwing him into this mix... and I give HIM my vote.

Here is my notice I got from my Virtual Stable:

    Tiz Wonderful

Your Comment: Tiznow, Scott Blasi, 2yo

    Date: July 9, 2007

    Track: CHURCHILL DOWNS

    Distance: Six Furlongs

    Time: 1.12:80 Breezing

    Track Condition: Fast

    Surface: Dirt

    Rank: 1/3

  4. 6) Curlin

  5. A number of horses on your list are not pointing to the Haskell at this point in time - Street Sense and Sightseeing should run a week earlier in the Jim Dandy, Rags To Riches will be in the CCA Oaks, and Nobiz Like Shobiz is pointing to the West Virginia Derby.

That said, if all seven lined up together, I might just give an advantage to Hard Spun.  Monmouth's surface is very kind to front runners and the only other horse on your list who might try for the lead is Any Given Saturday.  The rest prefer to sit back off the pace.  Hard Spun is very, very dangerous when allowed loose on the lead and he is a lithe, agile horse who should handle the turns well.  Curlin seems like the logical challenger, and while I think Curlin is the better horse he may not be fully cranked for the Haskell, with the main goal the Travers and the fall classics, whereas Hard Spun really hasn't been considered for the Travers and is pointing to the Haskell as his main summer goal.
