Diamondbacks have 1.Webb 2.Haren 3.The 45 yr old Big Unit when healthy still makes younger guys look like little leaguers. The Cubs have 1.Zambrano 2.Harden 3.Lilly  It's a hard one but because of Randy Johnson's age and health issues I'd probably go with The Cubs.

Rich Harden can be the ace for any team

Ryan Dempster can also be the ace for any team

Ted Lilly can easily be the 2nd in rotation in any team

Kerry Wood can easily be the 2nd rotation in any team

I am envious of the Cubs. I pray my Yankees will make good off season trades this year for quality pitching.

If you want to go by stats. Then it's the Cubs.

The mets starters you stated are 48-23, The D-backs are 54-37,

Angels 59-32, and the Cubs 59-26. The Cubs also have the only staff in the majors with all 5 posting a winning record. The are also the only staff to boast a player with a sub 2 ERA (Harden 1.82). They also lead the majors in strike outs for the 11th straight year. Other teams can argue that they have the Best #1 or Best #1 & #2 and the Cubs would be in that argument. But no team can match their 1-2-3, 1-2-3-4, or 1-2-3-4-5 starters this year at least.

John Maine (when healthy) was the give away.   The Angels, who might have 5 guys with 15 wins and the Rays who might have 5 guys with 12+ wins have the 2 best starting staffs  and then the Cubs.  The Mets are no slouches but......

Even though I am a Met fan, we don't have the best pitching in baseball.  The Angels, D-Backs and Cubs all have better overall pitching than us.  Though when it comes to the top two pitchers on a staff the D-backs are no.1 and the Mets are no.2.

1: Halladay. one of the best pitchers in baseball if not the best.

2: Burnett since cito game one of the games best K pitchers.

3: Marcum. Pre Injury one of the greater pitchers in the league. nearly as good as the doc.

4:Litsch who has pitch phenominally as a young guy.

5: Theirs Mcgowan who has also pitch great for a young guy. Purcey who has also showed signs of being great if he can keep control. Richmond if he can stretch out his stamina.

The Jays definitly have the best staff in baseball. the last three Marcum Litsch and Mcgowan. Are all great and showing promising career to be a full time 3 man or up. They put up numbers that even veterans cant put up.

The Cubs don't have an ace anymore -- they have four guys that are all excellent and then they have Jason Marquis.

The Snakes have Dan Haren AND Randy Johnson AND Brandon Webb.  They have two guys that could be aces for any team in the National League and one guy who has already been an ace in both leagues.

But the Cubs' pitching is DEEPER.  We'll see which one counts in October.
