No technique to Ground & pound?

Ofcourse there is, first you have to take the guy down without eating a knee, then you have to pass guard or be effective from within the guard (i,e Randy Coutures favoured technique) while controlling your opponents legs, moving your opinent towards the fence to restrict their movement etc without being submitted....

  1. Randy Couture does have really good ground and pound but there is people that have better g an p than him.

Tito Ortiz - not in the ufc anymore but if you watch his fights when he was at his best 'like the ken vs tito 3' it was amazing.

Houston Alexander - Not really known that much..In my opinion his last 2 fights were stopped early so he lost.

Fedor - Noway. I think he has always gotten lucky. like his fight with Randleman "he was getting dominated but he got a submission. He has almost no GanP he has submissions.

so many other fighters that are unknown but are so good.

  2. fedor has the best gnp in mma right now. if he adds his face stomps with it, that would be bad for his opponent. and to the guy who said he got lucky against randelmann, luck had nothing to do with it, he survived being dropped on his head because he is a freaking machine. randelmann had no chance from the get go.

  3. Matt hughes..but Urijar Fabers elbows can do alot of damage

  4. there is no comparison.  fedor emelianenko's ground and pound is so far in advance of everyone else that there is no competition.

  5. when Tito was good (lasted about six months!), his G&P was REALLY good.

But, look at the way Randy worked on Tim Sylvia for 5 rounds. That's world class G&P, so he wins it for me.

  6. tito in his prime was the master of ground and pound but is well past his best.

but fedor emelianenko is even better than what tito was in his prime.

  7. GSP--BY FAR

  8. Matt Hughes, I think he is the best :)

  9. Randy Couture

  10. Personally, I dont think ground and pound takes much "technique" at all.

It's probably the most boring aspect of MMA.  You overpower the guy, get the mount, and punch him in the face.

I prefer real top shelf grappling and stand up technique.

  11. Matt Hughes was with no doubt the best in his prime.  Let's face it the guy is getting a little older and having trouble winning fights these days.  It's hard to watch as Hughes fan.  I would say as of right now GSP is the most effective Groud and Pound guy.  He is so athletic and can pass even the best guards with ease.
