  1. If you're speaking in terms of striking technique: Federer hands down; players, analysts, and the legends themselves will all agree on this. He has by far the most purest, technically sound, effortless, graceful, and beautiful tennis shots in the history of the game. He IS unmistakably the most talented tennis player ever born thus far. Sampras is a close second. Agassi also had really graceful groundstrokes, pure, elegant, things of beauty. Unfortunately, having the best looking shots doesn't necessarily mean you'll win all the time. All it means is you have an usually high level of talent and hand-eye coordination which is an indicator of great potential for success, but if you don't have the mind and will to back it up all the talent in the world means almost nothing. Ex. Federer's shots are much more "graceful" than Nadal's, Nadal by comparison is inelegant and crude, but with a tremendous mentality he has gotten far with his game and seems to be gaining the edge in the rivalry. Safin is/was also a prodigious talent, I don't know if he was graceful but when he was on, he had the ability to hit winners off any shot from anywhere on the court on a dime! Forehand, backhand, serve, volleys, everything, yet because of his fragile mind he can barefly get past the 2nd round in a tournament these days. With the women it's much more difficult to determine. I don't really think there's one particular standout as far as talent goes. There isn't one player who's game just jumps out at you when you know your witnessing something special. They all seem to either mindlessly blundgeon the ball, or don't hit it hard enough to break an egg. But with women being women, of course they're never going to exhibit the same level of talent and athleticism as men - that's not sexist, that's just physical reality. If you're speaking in terms of sportsmanship, the best on the men's side are probably Federer, Blake and Nadal. On the women's, I would have to say Ivanovic but I don't really watch women's tennis so IDK.

  2. i don't care P

  3. For men, it's Roger Federer! he has the most graceful forehand and backhand I have ever seen. For women, I think they are all awkward.

  4. In today's game, I would say Federer.

    Graceful he is.

  5. Men easily. I have studied bio-mechanics and i did a number of tests on both men and women at UWA. Most of the women players had an awkward swing style.

this is my analysis of roger federer's graceful service motion

Roger federer's serve is extremely efficient. By using the necessary muscle groups of his body he is able to create an elastic energy able to apply a generous force to the body. I will attempt to analyse his complete transition from potential energy to kinetic energy.

1(0:00 - 0:00 / 0:09) - Starting Position - His back foot is parralel to the baseline. His Front foot is pointing to the nearest net post. His right hand is holding the racquet in the continental grip whilst his left hand is balancing the racquet at the throat. He is leaning forward, positioning his centre of gravity in front of him.

2(0:00 - 0:02 / 0:09) - Federer then begins his transition of weight onto his back foot by rocking his front foot. As he does this he brings both arms together until he gets to the 6 o'clock position.

3(0:02 - 0:06 / 0:09) - Federer proceeds to bring his racquet behind his back, the palm of his right hand is pointing to the ground as well as his racket face. This This allows the racquet to turn inwards and pass over Roger Federer's head. (his radius and ulna are 45 degrees with his humorous bone) whilst he extends his left hand. He lets go of the ball at the 3 o'clock position (45 Degrees, slightly to the right of his body in front of him) to allow the ball a straight vertical path. He proceeds to Bend his knees dramatically - he arches his back dramatically. Federer keeps his head up. - Right now Roger Federer's Body is in the shape of a backwards C, he has an enormous elastic and potential energy.

4 (0:06 - 0:08 / 0:09) - Federer - using the momentum from the transition of weight - rocks forward leaning on his toes. His upper body remains in the same position. He leaps off both feet, bringing his upper body in line with his lower body mid-air, he then proceeds to extend his arm, pronating his wrist to make a flat contact with the ball. He starts his arms motion with his elbow - allowing his forearm to generate massive potential energy - and then following up with his forearm making contact at the point in which his whole body forms a tilted I. Federer does not snap his wrist(a general myth of tennis serving)

5 (0:08 - 0:09 / 0:09) - Federer then follows through from high to low onto his left side. He lands on his left foot just inside the baseline and immediately proceeds to the net.

Roger Federer's serve is a smooth, clean motion. He follows the basic service method and excels with it.
