  1. Possibly Max Baer, He did kill someone in the ring.

  2. Shavers

    Foreman

    Louis

    Tyson

    Marciano

    Dempsey

    Liston

    Frazier

    Lewis

  3. I have to say Iron Mike, per square inch he was compact and used his whole 5 foot whatever frame to generate great power.

  4. Ken Norton Sr,

    broke M. Ali's jaw . . . ouch.

But that title belongs to . . .

    Mike Tyson,

    The most 1st round KO's.

  5. Here is a list of some hard hitting heavyweights:

    Jack Dempsey

    Joe Louis

    Rocky Marciano

    George Foreman

    Joe Frazier

    Sonny Liston

    Mike Tyson

    Earnie Shavers

    Max Baer

I believe these guys honestly had more punching power than any of the other heavyweights in history.

  6. Most heavy weight boxers agree that earnie shavers was the hardest hitter among the heavy weights, even fighters with great chins such as ali said that shavers was the hardest hitter they had ever faced.....Tyson was a hard hitter has well but what most people fail to realize is that it was his accuracy that generated knock outs not just his power, yes shavers hit hard but tyson was alot more accurate than shavers (and a lot meaner).....big george foreman is probably a close second, his power is simply not human and his punches were nothing short of devastating, what made him a better fighter than shavers was the fact that foreman was meaner and more vicious shavers hit hard but never had the killer instinct that tyson and foreman had.

  7. Earnie Shavers in my opinion. I think Ken Norton and Jimmy Ellis would agree.

  8. Earnie Shavers

Has 23 first round knockouts. His first 40 wins came all by knockout. Has 68 knockouts and 62 of those knockouts ended in less than 6 rounds. At age 41, before retiring, he won his last knockout win at the first round. Even though he was never champion, he was regarded by many as the hardest puncher in heavyweight history.

    George Foreman

Knockout power even after he turned 40. (89% KO power.) Had 15 first round knockouts. 61 fights ended by knockout in less than 6 rounds.

    Joe Louis

After defeating the Cinderalla Man and winning the heavyweight title, he had the record of being the longest champion ever in any weight division; over 11 years defending his title 25 times and 22 of those defenses were by knockout.

    Rocky Marciano

The only undefeated heavyweight champion with a KO power of 88%, 43 out of 49 came by knockout.

    Jack Dempsey

Heavyweight champion with 66 wins, 6 loses, and 51 knockouts. Of those knockouts, 47 came less than 6 rounds and 26 came in the first round.

    Mike Tyson

Youngest heavyweight champion with a record of 50-6 with 44 knockouts and 40 of those knockouts ended in less than 6 rounds and 22 knockouts in the first round. The last time Mike Tyson won a fight was in 2003 and it was a first round knockout.

  9. foreman is right up there, but i think that ernie shavers is the hardest puncher of all time.

  10. Its between Tyson, Foreman, and Tua (Shavers hit Holmes and he got up, Tyson hit him and he stayed down).

Tyson may have been the most devastating because of his speed and combination punching ability  But I think Tua was the most powerful, because, like Tyson, he threw punches with his whole body.

  11. Just gauging PUNCHING POWER leaves a lot of open territory.  Tyson's shots were legendary, and so were Foreman's (although, I think older George hit a bit harder, with more weight behind them)

My answer, though, is Earnie Shavers.  Holmes and Ali both said he hit harder than anyone they'd fought.  Larry said that when Earnie hit him, he felt his kinfolk back in Africa.  That's quite a reputation.  Ali's remembrance of Shavers consists of, "Earnie could punch you in the ear and break your ankle."

Pretty impressive. . . . . (it should also be noted that Archie Moore, who fought better at lightheavy, had more knockouts than anyone to EVER put on gloves)
