Please include California DMV section.

At a signal light, two cars waiting for the light to change - one will be turning left and the other, turning right. Who has the right of way? Does it matter if the one turning left is quicker than the one turning right?

  1. In the UK it is always give way to the right. So in US it should be always give way to the left.  Surely this is stated in driving test manuals.

  2. "When you turn left, give the right-of-way to all vehicles approaching you that are close enough to be dangerous. Also, look for motorcyclists, bicyclists, and pedestrians. On divided highways, or highways with several lanes, watch for vehicles coming in any lane you must cross. Turn left only when it is safe."

From the California handbook at the link below.    Scroll down to the section dealing with  "intersections".

In that you are at an intersection,  I would suggest the car turning right is close enough to be a danger and should go first.    Besides,  letting that car go first is the surest way the driver turning left can be sure they won't get hit.

  3. the person on your right.  some one at a crosswalk has the full right away. if your on your phone and there is some one at a cross walk you better pay attention when you are driving b/c the person walking across the street doesnt care or not if you see them b/c they have the right away

  4. Try this site it may help you and at the bottom it will say next page.............

  5. The person on the right has the right of way, but you don't have to wait for him/her if you get to the intersection first.

  6. the person on the left

  7. Right turn, then straight through, then left turn unless they have a left turn arrow.  If that is the case your light will still be red for the straight through.
