"Descendants of ex-slaves", you're kidding, right? No one that I know of refers to blacks in that manner.

We do not have a caste system here. Everyone has the same opportunities, although some circumstances may make it easier or harder for some, but the OPPORTUNITY to succeed is there.

Are you planning on immigrating? Sounds like it. Right now a lot of Americans are down on immigration. Especially when there are so many illegals here. Some Americans are just plain sick and tired of supporting them through government programs, especially because they are not citizens...yet our tax dollars support them. Most are tired of immigrants receiving government tax incentives to open up businesses, when Americans are not afforded the same privilege.

So I guess to put in your terms, yeah, descendants of ex-slaves have a higher status.

I am a white man. It seems like whites think we are highest status. But as a student it seemed to me that there was plenty of scholarships/grants available for women, immigrants, minorities. None for white males. So do we have the highest status. Probably not. Who knows!

Status in the united states is gauged by the amount of money you have, and 98% of all the richest people in the United States are white most of the come from families that immigrated, so yes the children of immigrants do.
