FreeCycle is a really great network of people who all have a common goal of reusing things that are no longer needed or wanted by others. You can give away things you no longer need or want, and you can get great used things from other people who live near you all for free.

You can find your local FreeCycle group here: http://www.freecycle.org/

It is a part of Yahoo Groups and is very easy to use and be a member of.

The best thing I got from my local Freecycle group was my Precor excercise bike. Anyone else get anything from FreeCycle they absolutely love?

  1. not yet but i check it religiously!

reUse! Because you can't recycle the planet!

  2. I got a great box of fabric remnants - which my friends and I used in making Christmas stockings for kids in group foster homes.

It is a great network.  I have found good homes for electronics, furniture, and exercise equipment that I no longer needed.

  3. Im gonna check the site out

  4. Free-cycle groups are great, however if you don't want the hassle of arranging to met someone, waiting for them and hoping they show up try donating. You can get a tax receipt that way and the goods get to someone who needs them at a price they can afford.  Just look up United way, salvation army or one of the women's shelter drop offs. There is always someone who needs what you have.

  5. I belong to it locally.  I have only looked so far, but was disappointed at how many people ask for a freebie and not nearly as many have something to give.  I also get most of what I need by buying storage units very cheaply.  I bought one recently for $40.00.  My friend got the bunk beds, I got dozens of things for my office (folders, clipboards, desk sets, even a brand new office chair) my boyfriend got a refrigerator for his fishing cabin.  Now that I've joined FreeCycle I'm going to have a ton of stuff to give away when I get the next unit lots of people will benefit.  BTW, if you want to know how to get such a good deal, look at my profile and e-mail me..

  6. I joined Freecycle in N.J. in  2002 and changed my locale to Az. when I moved here in 2005.  I have found new homes for furniture, excess home canned foods, curtains, household accessories, etc. over the years. Wooden pallets that were part of the delivery of building materials at our new home, supplied an elderly woman here with wood for her heating last winter.

I have received driveway stone, spanish roofiing tiles which I used as landscaping border, and more.

There are a couple of things that bother me. Freecycle is NOT a "My Hearts Desire" group, but is being used as such by some.  It also it should NOT be used as a dumping ground for puppies and kittens that are born due to the refusal of pet owners to spay/neuter their animals.

  7. I've just recently joined my local groups, I also got my sister started on it. I will never toss anything out without giving the list a try first, you never know what someone else may have a use for.
