How has low skill in math hurt you? Have you ever been humiliated in public because you couldn't do some basic computation?

  1. Yeah...too many times..

  2. I'd have to say to avoid this become really good with working a calculator and keep one on you!  Hey they are on cell phones already!

  3. Oh this question was MADE for me. Yes. Many times. I've been put on academic probation at my college and lost thousands of dollars in failing classes and tutors that don't help. I got kicked out of my Respiratory Care Clinical Program in college, therefore I will never be able to become a Respiratory Therapist, which was a dream of mine for a long time. Humilated in public? Oh yes. I had an instructor ask me the other day (very fast) "If there are 6 hours and we need it converted to minutes and there are 60 minutes in an hour, what's 60 x 6 ?" and I answered "Uhhh, 120???". I felt like the biggest idiot. He told me that he didn't believe me that I passed intermediate algebra (it took me 3X but I finally passed with a 3.0 and had to work my butt off for it!) and he told me to NEVER do an calculations without a calculator. Yeah. Made me feel like a huge dummy. I'm going to be tested for a learning disability soon. I have ZERO ability to do math and science and it's ruining my life. I'll never be able to advance in my career (healthcare) without being able to do more math. I've cried and hated myself over it for a long time now and I'm 25. Ohh, why can't I just be smart???
