I really can't stand it. I understand that while we are pregnant we count in weeks but after the child is born people should say their childs age in months, years, & etc! For example, I saw someone I haven't seen in a while and I was like "how old is your daughter now?" and she was like "she's 27months old". I'm like what? Oh you mean 2 1/2 years old. I'm thinking why couldn't you just say that? Do some parents do that b/c they want to make their children seem younger than they really are? Thanks for answering!

  1. just a brief calculation 27 months isn't 2 1/2 years. thats probably why she said her daughter is 27 months not 2 1/2 years. it's actually only 2 years 3 months.  30 months would be a 2 and a half year.  get over yourself it's not your kid they are talking about.  let them parent and discuss there parenting their own way.  when and if you have kids you can say the age any way you want.

  2. its just a different  way of saying it.

is it really that big of a deal?

    it the SAME AGE.

  3. Yea I have really not been in that situation but I see what you mean, I would say the same thing.. what? lol

  4. I freakin hate it. I'm not that good at math, and it takes me forever and a day to figure that c**p out.

  5. Haha!  I'm right there with ya!  I don't know why it bugs me so much, either, but it does.  Maybe you're right... they do it because they're just so much into the baby thing.

I think with a one-year-old, it's okay to say "a year and 3 months" or "a year and a half."  It's even okay to throw in the "and-a-half" when they're 3, 4, 5... up until they start school (beyond that, it's kind of unneccessary information).  But once they hit 2, c'mon... enough with the months.  Don't make us pull out a calculator to figure out your kid's age!

  6. After 24 months you are suppose to say according to years so yeah i am not sure why anyone says 27 months.  I know my youngest is 3 1/2 years old and that is what i say.  If they are like a month from their birthday i always say they will be such and such age in a month or whatever.  I understand when you have babies saying they are like 1, 2, 3 or more months but after 24 months there is no reason to go by months anymore

  7. It doesn't matter to me.  I know how many months equal one year, and it's not that hard to figure out... i can think of a lot more important things to "hate" -- president bush is one good example.

  8. I don't mind, up to 2 years, then yes, it gets kind of annoying.

  9. I think months are okay up until 24 months and then it annoys me .. I can see up until age 2 because they change so much during those 2 years and there are so many stages .. and everything from clothes to food at that age goes by months. There is a big difference between a 12 month old and 18 month old. After 2 ..I say just say the years.

  10. its dosnt bother me it all works out the same in the end

  11. I don't know. I put years and months (daughter is 3years8months). To me it does initially make them sound younger when you only say months. It doesn't really bug me though. I have occasionally slipped and done the same thing. For example saying we bought our house when our daughter was 21 months old. I don't know why, but that just sounds better then saying "when she was 3 months shy of 2 years old" lol. I dunno.

  12. i do this this sometime I see nothing wroung with it because children go through stages so to better under stand what they are going through and should be doing I go by mos. MY little girl is 35 mos. which means that the 31st she will be 3 years old after that i will do the whole 3.....3 and a half thing

  13. hmm hate is such a strong word! Does it matter how people word the age of their children?  Let her say how many months her child is, and take with a grain of salt.

    :)

  14. Me! It takes me long to figure out Lol

  15. Once my son hit 12 months, I just started saying he was 1. I couldn't keep up with it lol. Now that he is almost 3 I just say... he's two, but his birthday is in october. Even when he was born, trying to count weeks was hard. Just months works fine!

  16. i agree, imagine if we all went around saying our age in months

  17. after 12 months you go to a year. it annoys the c**p out of me. i have to like calculate to figure out how old the kid is. "hi i'm 216 months old"

    it pisses me off.

    good question.
