Constitutional right to travel abroad? I don't mean nations off limits off course by law but in general. The Govt said in the news tonight it was not our constitutional right to travel abroad!

What say you all?

  1. I believe we have a right to travel abroad.

  2. I think we do have that right and any lawyer can find it in the constitution. Unless you have committed a crime and a judge has ordered you not to travel, you can. What fool went and said that?

  3. A "constitutional" right? I cannot say I have ever heard this mentioned specifically, but that leads to the old adage of omission not necessarily meaning PERmission. However, having served in the military for nearly 20 years, I would have to say that travel abroad should be REQUIRED of everyone. It is one thing to see distant peoples on TV and offer comment from the comfort of your own couch; it is another thing ENTIRELY to walk among them and experience, for better of worse, the conditions in which they live. Some are self-inflicted - I would hasten to say MOST - but others are not.

There are some areas of the world that are A) inherently dangerous to the PHYSICAL; and B) inherently dangerous to the PSYCHOLOGICAL. It is quite possible that travel to these countries is what the government is referring to; AND, the government does have, as one of its functions, the power to ban travel to and from countries that threaten Americans and/or American interests. Voluntary travel to such a country, depending on the reason for the visit, could be construed collusion with a named enemy of the state, so to speak.

EDIT: Oh, and Thomas, it took me watching about 1 minute of one of those "fabulous" YouTube videos to realize that "slaveofthemighty" is eaither a nutcase or a very poor historian. Truncated quotes from "ancient", and in some cases, DISCREDITED, texts, taken out of context, does NOT a conspiracy make...you, my friend, have watched one too many History Channel specials on the Apocalypse.

  4. You can leave the country anytime you want.  Maybe the country you are traveling to doesn't want visitors or you don't have a valid passport...they can deny entry.

You may have a problem returning to the USA without a valid passport.

These are not rights guaranteed by the Constitution.

  5. we have a right to leave, but if we want to travel to somewhere like Cuba, we have to travel to another country first and then to Cuba. and the same way back. also, we have to ask the Cubans to not stamp our passports.

as for the constitutionality issue, it depends on which constitution you are referring to: the U.S. Constitution or the constitution according to george. in case of the latter, it could be that we don't have any rights, especially if one is liberal.

  6. I tell ya man you need to get on board here and start doing some homework. If these kind of liberty restraints are not to your liking then you need to see the bigger picture. Check out youtube and search for "surviving the tribulation" the author is "slaveofthemighty" so you know you have the right one and sit back and prepare to have your mind blown away.....good luck.
