Who here is a republican and why?

serious question so i don't need no funny stuff. and if you're not a republican then don't answer. But I've always been lead to believe that most republicans are wealthy people who are very religious so that's why they vote Republican. and that they don't care for middle class or working people. So inform me as to what makes you a republican. thanks!

I was a democrat because I didn't know any better and that is what my mother was.  Then I got married and became a republican.  Then I started researching and realized that I wasn't either one. I am a Conservative which can be summed up as pro-American.

i think about the eisenhower days when the country was in bad shape.  welfare was created to give the man PRIDE.

the govt created projects for men to work and then got paid.

they didn't sit around with a beer at 8 am waiting for the govt welfare check on the 1st of the month.  

republicans have work ethics and are self made and self sufficient and take responsibility and don't like handouts.

I am a republican because my grandfather was a republican and was a elected township official, so to vote for him, i registered republican.  i originally was fascinated by the idea of being fiscally responsible, strong on defense and placing the needs of America above the needs of the rest of the world.  I have since become disillusioned with the party.  I served in the navy under reagan/bush and went to the persian gulf, Iraq sent bombs into the USS Stark while we were on operations with the Iraqi's, they said they are our allies, Iraq gassed the Kurds while I was over there, they said Iraq is our ally, then during the Savings and Loans scandal Bush 1 needed a distraction and suddenly Saddam is Hitler.  I started to really look closely at my party's values and have rarely voted for a republican since.
